About Eastern Wyoming College

EWC is a comprehensive, public community college located in the Platte Valley of eastern Wyoming. Students attend from all over the country, but most come from Wyoming, Nebraska, Colorado, and South Dakota. Torrington is located in Goshen County. The county population is 12,538 and the population in Torrington is 5,776.

The College offers more than 40 degree programs designed to transfer smoothly to area colleges and universities, or designed to help students get the training needed to obtain a job or upgrade skills. EWC also has many other successful programs such as Adult Basic Education, GED preparation, dual enrollment, concurrent enrollment, non-credit offerings, workforce development, just to name a few.

The main campus in Torrington covers approximately 73 acres and has 24 buildings and additions. Highlights include a new residence hall, one new and one redesigned welding lab, and plans to expand facilities for the veterinary technology program.

The EWC Lancers are well represented in several athletic teams and clubs. EWC offers men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball, coed golf, and coed rodeo. Included among the highly successful clubs and organizations are the Beta Upsilon Delta Criminal Justice Club, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, SkillsUSA, and an active Student Senate. The College also recently added a livestock judging program and a debate team.

 

Mission Statement

Eastern Wyoming College is a student-centered, comprehensive public community college committed to providing accessible, postsecondary education for its students. The College's primary constituency includes all residents of Goshen, Platte, Converse, Niobrara, Weston, and Crook counties. Eastern Wyoming College provides high quality, dynamic life-long learning which focuses on academic transfer programs leading to associate of arts or science degrees, career and occupational programs leading to certificates and applied science degrees. The College also provides developmental and basic skills instruction, adult and continuing education, public and community service programs, and student activities and support services. To this end the College is accountable to its students for educational opportunities that are accessible and affordable.

Eastern Wyoming College is a rural public comprehensive community college that facilitates student learning in small classes within a supportive educational environment. The college values academic achievement, lifelong learning and cultural enrichment. As the college plans for the next decade, it will be resourceful, adaptive and innovative in fostering individual development and responding to community needs within our district and service area.

The History of Eastern Wyoming College

Eastern Wyoming College was established in September, 1948 as the Southeast University Center, an extension of the University of Wyoming and a part of the Torrington School District. In June of 1956, the citizens of the Torrington Public School District voted to organize the Goshen County Community College District as an independent political subdivision of the state with its own board of control. The name of the College was changed to Eastern Wyoming Community College on December 20, 1968.
