Position Profile
The Position
The Board of Trustees seeks an individual who is a dynamic leader and embraces the College's mission.
The person selected for this position will report directly to the elected seven-member Board of Trustees and is responsible for implementation of Board policy.
Preferred Minimum Qualifications
- An earned doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Substantial experience in a leadership position in higher education.
- Experience in teaching or counseling in a community college.
Ideal Characteristics
- Possess and be able to demonstrate effective management and organizational skills.
- Be a strong, decisive leader with a clear vision about the mission of community colleges and be able to convince relevant groups to understand and embrace this vision. Be able to build effective teams to accomplish the College's business.
- Be able to work collaboratively with all parts of the College and service area, seek out and use the expertise that is available and use consensus building as appropriate.
- View the College as an important part of the community and be able to function as a visibly involved part of that community.
- Be able to plan strategically and know how to use the strategic plan to determine institutional priorities, develop budgets, and make key decisions.
- Be an effective communicator and be able to communicate directly, as required, with various parts of the College and community.
- Be sensitive to the reality of change and be able to adapt to and anticipate change that can have important implications for the College.
- Possess an awareness of the important role played by the various levels of local, state, and national government and be able to demonstrate those skills that will make it possible to be an effective advocate for the College at any and all levels.
- Possess an appreciation of the unique role of small and rural community colleges and be able to articulate some of their special challenges.
- Be aware of the important role of technology in society and in education and be able to provide leadership regarding its use to support both institutional function and student learning.
- Understand the important role that community colleges play in preparing the nation's workforce and be able to provide leadership as the College strives to become more effective in this area.
- Have a passion for getting involved in the lives of students through the educational process.
- View instruction and learning as the cornerstones of the College and be able to demonstrate support.
- Understand the big picture of financing community colleges and be able to provide leadership to effective budgeting for College operations.
- Have a good awareness of the importance of marketing, public relations, and institutional development. Be able to show accomplishments in these areas.
- Possess the important attributes of honesty, integrity, and balance. Have strong human relations skills and have an open style that relates to others in a warm and respectful manner.
