He returned to EWC as head coach in July of 2007. During his first season at the helm 2007-08, the Lancers claimed the Region IX Championship in front of a packed house on the EWC Campus! That season the Lancers also Claimed the Central Sub-Region Championship and a Wyoming Conference Championship. Coach Jones was named the Region IX coach of the year and the coach of the year in the Wyoming Conference. Coach Jones was also an assistant at EWC during the 2003-04 season when the Lancers won the Region Championship and placed 8th at the National tournament. (overall EWC has claimed 5 Region IX championships, since 1991). Last Season, 2012-13, the lancers had a very competitive team claiming the best road record in the south sub-region.
A native of Saratoga, Wyoming, Coach Jones played for the Lancers from 1996-98 under former coach Bob Davis, earning 2 WCCAC championships and an overall record of 46-14. He then finished his playing career at The Evergreen State College in Olympia Washington where he played under former Lancer John Barbee. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 2000 from TESC. He then started his Masters degree in Sports at Boise State University before being called to come assist at EWC in 2003 by former EWC coach Andy Ward (currently assistant at Idaho State University).
Coach Jones is pursuing a graduate degree at the University of Wyoming in Kinesiology. He and his wife Jennifer have three children, a daughter Kennedy (10), son Max (4) and daughter Harper (2). His parents Mark and Nancy Jones hail from Casper, WY and live in Saratoga, WY. He has two brothers Travis and Adam and a sister, Erin.
Coach Jones’ goals at EWC are to run a basketball program with a high level of integrity with outstanding student-athletes. He would like to coach players who are great teammates who play extremely hard. “This is a great basketball community with a lot of tradition; we appreciate all of the support and friendships in the town of Torrington and outside of Torrington. My goal each year will be to continue to produce a team that everyone can be proud of on and off the court.”
