At present there are several student organizations on campus, and as interest increases new organizations may be formed. Student extra-curricular involvement develops leadership, cooperative, and service skills, rounds out one's education, and provides a much needed constructive diversion from the academic grind. Those students on probation will not be allowed to participate in any of the campus activities until they have been removed from probationary status. Every student is urged to become an active member of the student body. Faculty advisors are assigned to each college-sponsored club or activity.
Information about each activity or organization is listed below.- ART CLUB
- The EWC Art Club is an organization for students who love the visual arts, whether they have professional or amateur interests. The club works together to engage in and organize more extensive and intensive experiences in the visual arts. This organization organizes enriching activities, including field trips to museums and art communities, workshops, visiting artists, and collaboration with other creative disciplines. There will be no priority established based on style, content, media, or individual interests in art; all interested students are welcome.
- BIOLOGY CLUB
- The Biology Club was established in January 2003, with the intent of fostering a sense of comradery with other students in biological fields, and to assist local biologists with data collection and other duties. Students seeking degrees in Biology, Environmental Sciences, Wildlife and Fisheries Biology and Management, and pre-professional are eligible for membership. Activities include guest speakers, a wild game feast, and trips to the National Bighorn Sheep Center in Dubois and the National Elk Refuge in Jackson.
- BLOCK & BRIDLE
- Block and Bridle Club, formerly known as the Ag Club, is a nationally recognized organization offered at numerous junior colleges and universities. Many of the members are involved in animal science studies, but all students involved with agriculture are encouraged to join. The club participates in events with other Block and Bridle Chapters, sponsors social activities, and travels to educational seminars such as The Range Beef Cow Symposium. One advantage of joining Block and Bridle is that your membership transfers to any other school that you attend that participates in Block and Bridle.
- CAMPUS ACTIVITIES BOARD
- This is a formal group of interested students who assist the Activities Director in the selection, promotion, and follow-through of activities for all Torrington based students. Anyone interested students are invited to join the planning board by contacting the Activities Director.
- CAMPUS MINISTRY
- The campus ministry program is here to provide and support a ministry service to the Eastern Wyoming College community. This community includes the students, faculty, staff, and community volunteers. The program attempts to provide a ministry that is flexible in the attitude and approach it takes. The program provides an atmosphere of unconditional acceptance. Campus ministry seeks to be a ministry of pastoral care, education, social concern, and ecumenical relations and is lead by community leaders and local churches.
- CAMPUS VENTURES: EWC
- Campus Ventures is an interdenominational Christian organization composed of student, faculty, and staff at Eastern Wyoming College. It is the student ministry of the Foundation for Christian Discipleship of Laramie, Wyoming. Any student, faculty, or staff may be a member by attending meetings.
- COSMETOLOGY CLUB
- The Cosmetology Club is designed for the student who is outgoing and creative. The club encourages leadership, unity, and advanced education. All Cosmetology Club members must maintain a GPA of 2.0. As a club, students attend state hair shows and educational field trips. The club is active in community services such as: the swing bed unit, Evergreen Court, Goshen Care Center, and the Christmas parade.
- CREATIVE WRITING CLUB
- CollegeEWC Creative Writing Club is an organization for students who love to write/draw for a profession or hobby. Student�s work will be published in a publication called Bleeding Ink. This club gathers in meetings to discuss events and topics as well as enjoy each other�s company.
- CRIMINAL JUSTICE CLUB
- Beta Upsilon Delta is a member of the American Criminal Justice Association. The club's main goal is to create a positive interaction with local, state, and federal agencies. Membership is composed of students in all areas of the criminal justice field, instructors, and local police officers. The club participates in competitions on a regional and national level. In the past decade this club has won numerous regional and national team and individual honors.
- FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES (FCA)
- FCA is open to all persons of different races, nationalities, and gender who are willing to come and join in the activities and fellowship with other Christians. No religious background is necessary, just an open heart, mind, and soul. FCA is interdenominational. FCA’s concern is to draw athletes and coaches and all whom are influenced into a Christian service. FCA has chosen to target the athlete and coach because of their great influence. FCA focuses to draw the athlete, the coach, and all that are influenced. ALL are welcome to participate in FCA.
- GAME CLUB
- The EWC Game Club�s purpose is to provide students with an outlet for relaxation and fellowship. They are open to all EWC students and community members and meet every Friday evening between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. during the fall and spring semesters.
- To advise and implement, with approval of the Housing Director, Dean of Students, and the College Board, policies, regulations, and procedures for the improvement of residence hall living.
- To coordinate housing activities.
- To maintain close two-way communication between the student residents and the College.
- To provide opportunities for the residents to participate in residence hall government.
- To evaluate environmental factors which influence the general welfare of residents.
- INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS
- Eastern Wyoming College belongs to the Wyoming Community College Athletic Conference, and team championships are declared in women's volleyball and men's basketball. The college belongs to the National Junior College Athletic Association and is a member of Region IX. The intercollegiate athletic program for men consists of basketball, golf and rodeo. The intercollegiate athletic program for women consists of volleyball, golf and rodeo. Activity grants are available in all of these sports. The athletic program at Eastern Wyoming College provides many opportunities for the student body to become a unified organization that is willing to display pride and enthusiasm for its school.
- INTERCOLLEGIATE HORSE SHOWING CLUB
- Our club is a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Showing Association (IHSA). We welcome any EWC student to join our club. Members who wish to compete at an approved IHSA show must be a full-time undergraduate student and must be in good academic standing at the time of the competition. The main activity of the club is to allow team members to compete at ISHA shows at other colleges. Events competed in are western and hunt seat equitation as well as reining and jumping. Members are evaluated based on riding ability and placed in the appropriate riding class. Riders of all skill levels are welcomed! Other club activities include fund-raising events to help with IHSA membership, travel, and show expenses. As a community service our club is dedicated to helping the local youth with their horsemanship skills.
- INTRAMURAL ATHLETICS
- The intramural program of the college is available to all enrolled college students, and all students are encouraged to participate. Intramurals at Eastern Wyoming College are set up on team, dual, and individual basis. Activities include basketball, bowling, racquetball, softball, volleyball, and wallyball.
- JOURNALISM CLUB
- The Journalism Club (along with the Publications Production class) produces The Lancer Post, a newspaper for Eastern Wyoming College students. The purpose of The Lancer Post is to inform and entertain readers, while also offering a forum for readers via of letters to the editor and guest editorials. Students may participate in any or all of the following areas: writing, taking photographs, working on layout, production and/or distribution, and advertising sales. The newspaper’s function is to keep its readers informed as to what is happening on campus, including but not limited to special events and activities, club/organizational news: club news; Student Senate decisions; dances, music/entertainment; sports; features about students or EWC staff; workshops; financial aid news; health issues; and any other news that affects students. Students may also write columns on topics of their choice. Club members also produce taped interviews with students and/or college personnel for the local cable station to keep the local community abreast of college news. Students may participate in yearly meetings with the Wyoming Press Association, which includes a variety of workshops.
- LIVESTOCK JUDGING CLUB
- The mission of the club is to provide educational activities to interested EWC students through livestock judging. Objectives include development of the following skills: leadership skills as Club officers, communication skills through oral reasons and fund-raising activities, social skills as club members, and decision making skills through judging practices and contests. Club members must be enrolled in ANSC 1210 & ANSC 2470. In order to participate in trips, club members must actively participate in club fund-raising activities. National contests like the American Royal and National Western preset the number of team members. Team members must be full-time students with a 2.0 GPA and be currently passing all classes. Team selection will be based upon ability and participation.
- MUSIC CLUB
- The purpose of the EWC Music Club is to expose students to musical experiences at little or no cost to the student and to assist the Eastern Wyoming Fine Arts Council with their efforts. With the money raised through various activities, the students participate in field trips to Cheyenne, Denver, or other cities where symphonies, concerts, operas, or musical theater productions are available.
- PHI THETA KAPPA
- Phi Theta Kappa is an academic honor society that recognizes and promotes scholarship, leadership, and service. Students who have attained a 3.5 cumulative grade point average in twelve or more credit hours in a degree program are eligible for membership. Phi Theta Kappa is the recognized academic honor society for community colleges in the United States and has approximately 800 chapters. The EWC chapter began in 1989 and initiates new members in the Fall and Spring semesters.
- RODEO CLUB
- The Rodeo Club is designed to promote intercollegiate rodeo at Eastern Wyoming College. It supports an increased interest in rodeos and other Western activities, and it helps to establish a closer relationship among students interested in this activity. The rodeo team is a member of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
- SKILLS USA-VICA
- Vocational and Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) is a professional organization for students in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations. It focuses on leadership, citizenship, and character development. The Club offers Eastern Wyoming College students special opportunities to further enhance their schooling and skill development through activities, trips, and competitions at the local, state, and national level.
- SKILLS USA/BUSINESS DIVISION
- The EWC Skills USA/Business Division provides students who are business, computer science, and non-business majors the opportunity to participate in a “business-oriented” student organization. Students may participate in business/industry related field trips, develop leadership skills, attend club sponsored forums, compete at state competitions/leadership activities, and social events. Activities are planned to enhance knowledge and awareness for all students involved.
- SPIRIT SQUAD
- The EWC Spirit Squad focuses on promoting school spirit and representing the students, alumni, faculty, administration and friends of EWC at athletic events and other EWC activities. They also focus on supporting the endeavors of athletes who represent EWC. Individuals are selected at designated tryout times within the year.
- STUDENT AMBASSADORS
- The Student Ambassadors are a select group of students who are chosen for their positive attitudes, varying geographical residences, majors, and extra-curricular involvement. They must maintain a 2.5 grade point average. These students are, in fact, ambassadors of the College and represent it at many social and recruitment/retention functions. Students interested must contact the Coordinator of Enrollment Services.
- STUDENT SENATE
- The Student Senate is the governing agency of the EWC Student Body. Membership includes every segment of the student body as defined by the Senate Constitution. Officers for the succeeding academic year are elected each Spring, with other representation selected early in the Fall. The over-all mission of the Senate is to provide an active, equitable, and welcoming atmosphere for Eastern Wyoming College students. The Senate membership is much involved in disbursement of student activity funds. All students are welcome to attend weekly Senate meetings.
- VETERINARY TECHNOLOGY CLUB
- The Veterinary Technology Club is designed to promote interest in the vocation of Veterinary Technology. Fund raising activities include operating the concession facility at EWC athletic events and sponsoring pet washes, and raffles. Recreational and academic activities include barbecues, picnics, and field trips. Field trips have included the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo, the Denver Zoo, the Denver Museum of Natural History, and veterinary technician seminars. Membership is open to all students who have an interest in Veterinary Technology.
