Eastern Wyoming College presents Wyoming PBS “Storm of the Century: The Blizzard of ‘49”

Wyoming PBS will present “Storm of the Century: the Blizzard of 49” screening and discussion on Wednesday November 18th, from 7-8:30 pm in the Multi-purpose room at the EWC Douglas campus.

Wyoming PBS will be hosting a sneak preview and discussion of the upcoming local documentary, “Storm of the Century: The Blizzard of ‘49”. The event is free and open to the public and will include light snacks. Following a short clip from the documentary (approximately 15 minutes), a group of panelists will engage attendees in an open dialogue about the stories and issues raised from the film.

Panelists will include producer Tom Manning, and Jimmy and Carmen Shane from Lusk. The Shanes published a book on the blizzard of ’49 titled “Snow Flurries”. The discussion will be moderated by University of Wyoming history professor Phil Roberts.

This film tells the story of the Blizzard of ’49” – the worst series of storms in Wyoming’s history. The blizzard brought out the best in people. Wyoming citizens from all walks of life cooperated together and demonstrated exceptional ingenuity in the face of dire circumstances. There were extraordinary acts of kindness, with people generously giving their time and resources. The public worked together to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles and ultimately won in the end. More information can be found at

“Storm of the Century: The Blizzard of ‘49” premieres Tuesday, December 8 at 7 p.m. on Wyoming PBS.
