EWC Initiates New Honor Society Members

(Torrington, Wyoming) Eastern Wyoming College had the honor of initiating nine new members into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society on Wednesday, March 5, 2003. New members inducted into the Alpha Omicron Lambda Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa were, Janis Beesley, Casey Cawiezel, Nicole Rae Callan, Mark Marlatt, Chris Miller, Leesa House, Jennifer A. Rawlings, Michelle Ann Redenbaugh, and Elizabeth Steen.

The Honorable Keith Kautz, 8th District Court Judge, gave the keynote address about achievement and left the crowd laughing with an anecdote about three key things to remember in life. The inductees were congratulated by EWC President, Jack Bottenfield and Vice President/Dean of Instruction, Ann Beaulieu and welcomed into the Society by Chapter Advisors, Robert Creagar, Mathematics/Physics Instructor, and Nicholas Roster, Biology Instructor.
The Alpha Omicron Lambda Chapter also received the 2002 Pinnacle Scholarship worth $100 in recognition of increasing the acceptance rate of eligible students by 10% over the previous year. The stipend will be used partially to help pay membership fees. (Pictured right are Bob Creagar, Nick Roster, and Jack Bottenfield.)
Students must achieve an accumulated 3.5 or better grade point average, be a full-time student, and working towards an Associate Degree. Phi Theta Kappa is a national honor fraternity for two-year colleges. Its purpose is to recognize and encourage scholarship while promoting leadership and service within the community college.
Beesley, a 2002 graduate of Pine View High School, is the daughter of Jerome and Sally Beesley of St. George, Utah. Although undecided at the moment, she plans on obtaining her Bachelors degree. Cawiezel is majoring in General Agriculture with plans to transfer to the University of Wyoming. She is the daughter of Max and Bonnie Cawiezel of Morrill, Nebraska. Callan is majoring in Business and plans to transfer to a 4-year college. She is the daughter of Ray and JoAnn Callan of Bridgeport, Nebraska. Marlatt is a Computer Science/Network Technician major, who wants to work locally for an area Network Administrator as a Computer Support Specialist. He is the son of Ethel and Russell Marlatt of Torrington. Miller is Pre-Medicine with aspirations of becoming a doctor. He is the son of Tom and Deb Miller of Torrington. House is a Psychology major and plans to transfer to the University of Wyoming or Chadron to finish her degree. She is the daughter of Clark and Terri House of Yoder, Wyoming. Rawlings is majoring in Accounting and will transfer to Western Baptist College in Salem, Oregon. She is the daughter of Lonny and Susan Rawlings of Torrington. Redenbaugh is an Accounting major with plans to transfer to the University of Wyoming. She is the daughter of Bill and Judy Redenbaugh of Guernsey, Wyoming. Elizabeth Steen will graduate from Torrington High School this spring and will enter college to study Music Education to become a high school teacher. She is the daughter of John and Peggy Steen.
