EWC to Host Barbecue in Newcastle
September 4, 2003
(Torrington, WY) The EWC Foundation along with the Board of Trustees is in the process of spending some time in the outreach communities. With distance education and programs at outreach sites in Niobrara, Converse, Platte, Weston and Crook counties, EWC recognizes how vital they are to the future of the college. Building on the excellent relationship that community education has established with the outreach students, teachers and coordinators, the Foundation will host a barbecue in Newcastle on September 16, 2003 and Wheatland on October 9, 2003. In Newcastle, the barbecue will be held at Dow Park and in case of bad weather the location will be the Youth Exhibit Hall at the Weston County Fairgrounds.
The EWC Foundation recently felt the need to give the people in the outreach counties representation on its board. As a result it voted to expand its membership to include five members from outreach communities. EWC Foundation started with a $108 donation given by faculty for scholarships in 1964, and today the assets exceed $1.2 million. During the 2002 school year, the Foundation offered more than sixty-five endowed and annual scholarships valued at more than $61,000. They also contributed to institutional honor, departmental and outreach scholarships, athletic and activity grants, high school student guest waivers, and senior citizen tuition waivers valued more than $400,000.
The Foundation has assisted the college in purchasing computers and remodeling computer labs. It has purchased equipment for welding and veterinary technology vocational programs and has assisted with campus grounds beautification. The Foundation assisted the college in acquiring property and building the large animal complex. Recently, the college and Foundation have begun a major gifts campaign.
