EWC's Edwards Dominates Calf Roping at LCCC Rodeo

October 21, 2003

(Torrington, WY) Kean Edwards, Gillette, placed first in both rounds of calf roping to finish in first place at the LCCC Rodeo the weekend of October 17-19. "Kean had a successful summer at the professional
rodeos and it has carried right in to the fall. College rodeos have two rounds, earlier he and I had discussed treating each run as a separate rodeo. He definitely did that with 8.5 and 8.9 second runs and won the average by 3.5 seconds. Kean is currently leading the regional standings," stated Jake Clark, EWC Rodeo Coach. The men's team placed third over the weekend with help from teammates Cliff Smith, of Highmore, SD, TJ Kraft, of Berthold, ND, Jacob Rinehart, of Highmore, SD, Billy Grant, of Ordway, CO, and Brent Zurcher, of Torrington. Smith placed seventh in round one of calf roping, Kraft placed ninth in round one of saddle bronc, Rinehart had a first place finish in round one of steer wrestling, while Grant placed second overall in steer wrestling, and Brent Zurcher finished with a second place in team roping with former teammate Zane Marty from UW.

The EWC women's team finished the weekend with a first place split. Clark commented, "The women's team finished strong with the help of Jamie Tafoya. Jamie made a great run in the final round of tough competition." Tafoya, Jackson, WY, finished second in round one and first in round two to place first in barrel racing. Ronnie Macdonnel, of Carbondale, CO added points with an eighth place finish in round one and a fourth place finish in round two in barrel racing while Tyffani Hansen, of Hawk Springs, had a tenth
place finish in round one. "Our women's team is in great shape to win the region and we have many students in the top ten in their events. The are looking forward to the spring rodeos," stated Clark.

Eastern Wyoming College will host the next regional rodeo on March 26-28, 2004 at the Pavilion at the Goshen County Fair Grounds. For more information about rodeo at Eastern Wyoming College, contact Jake Clark at 532.8337.
