EWC Foundation Announces Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient

EWC Foundation Announces Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient(Torrington, WY) The Eastern Wyoming College Foundation has announced the recipient of the 2004 Distinguished Alumni Award. This year's recipient is Jerry Hunt from Spearfish, South Dakota. Hunt will be presented with the award at commencement on Friday, May 7, 2004.

Hunt was raised in Upton and graduated from Upton High School in 1973. He then attended EWC in 1976 on a basketball scholarship and earned his Associate of Arts degree. After earning his degree from EWC in 1976, he then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. He worked for Great Western Pump following college, and now is a Supervising Engineer and equal partner of Weston Engineering, Incorporated. Weston Engineering employs approximately twenty individuals from the Upton area, approximately five in the Laramie area, and recently sold a satellite office that was located in Park City, Utah. Weston specializes in all aspects of groundwater development. Hunt is a registered professional engineer in Wyoming, South Dakota, and Utah. In 2002 he was nominated as the Wyoming Businessman of the Year.

Mayor Mike Varney who coached Hunt when he played for the Lancers remembers that "Jerry was always very well liked while at Eastern. He was very steady on and off the basketball court and was a very mature, excellent student." EWC Athletic Director, Verl Petsch, Jr. also remembers Hunt, "He was very serious about his studies."

Hunt is currently very involved in the community. He assists with the AAU Spearfish Youth Wrestling Program, the Belle Fourche Recreational League Basketball, is the banquet coordinator for the National Wild Turkey Federation banquet. Hunt also serves on the Spearfish school district Parent Advisory Committee, and is a member of the Spearfish Booster Club.

Hunt and his wife Tina have six children. Hunt added about receiving the award, "Looking around at the many other individuals that have attended Eastern Wyoming College and the accomplishments they have achieved makes this award a very great honor for me to receive."
