EWC IHSA Club Competes in Horse Shows
December 16, 2004
(Torrington, WY) The Eastern Wyoming College IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Showing Association) team recently competed at Curtis, NE, (NCTA) and in Cheyenne, WY, (LCCC). Dr. Susan Walker, EWC instructor and ISHA sponsor, accompanied students Aimee Mehrens (Torrington, WY), Erika Backes (Bushnell, NE), Jenna Chappell (Alamosa, CO), Daniel King (Manville, WY), Leanne Roe (Shirland, IL) and Kelsey Young (Power, MT) to each event.
According to Dr. Walker the ISHA shows are unique in that no one is allowed to use their own horse, there is no warm-up on the horses by the competitors and no personal tack is allowed. Horses and riders are paired randomly to enable riders to compete solely on their horsemanship ability. Competitors may also be asked to switch horses during a class.
King took 5th place in the Beginning Horsemanship Class at Curtis, NE. Backes placed 4th and 6th in the Intermediate II Horsemanship Class with Roe finishing in 6th place at the Cheyenne, WY, competition.
The IHSA promotes competition for riders of all skill levels, which compete individually and as teams at regional, zone, and national levels.
