Jim Rose to Speak at EWC Commencement

(Torrington, WY) Eastern Wyoming College is pleased to announce that Dr. Jim Rose, Executive Director of the Wyoming Community College Commission, will be the speaker at the 56th annual commencement in the Fine Arts Auditorium on May 6th, at 7:30 p.m. Rose is a Wyoming native. He is married to Michele Rose and has three children, Sara, Andy, and Emily.
Rose grew up in Goshen County, attending elementary and secondary school in Lingle and beginning his post secondary studies at Eastern Wyoming College. He graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in architectural engineering and then obtained a master's degree from the University of Virginia. Rose practiced architecture in Lander until taking a faculty position in Civil & Architectural Engineering at UW. During his 18 years as a professor and director of architectural engineering, he also served as a member of the Laramie City Council and for two years as Laramie's mayor. While in Laramie he served on the boards of several community and social service agencies including the Cathedral Home for Children and the Salvation Army. He received a doctorate in education from UW and in 1998 was elected to serve in the 55th Wyoming Legislature as a member of the House of Representatives.
Prior to taking his current position as Executive Director of the Wyoming Community College Commission, Jim was a campus administrator for a community college in Sonoma County, California. While living in Petaluma, California, he was a member of the Petaluma Sunrise Rotary Club and the Petaluma Planning Commission.
Jack Bottenfield comments, "As President of Eastern Wyoming College, I am very pleased that Jim Rose has agreed to deliver our 2005 EWC Commencement Address. The Rose family has figured prominently in the history of Eastern Wyoming College. Jim's father, Rich, was President of the EWC Board of Trustees from 1972-77. Jim's brother, Jeff, is a current member of the EWC Board. Jim is also a past recipient of the
Distinguished Alumni Award from EWC."
Commencement activities will begin with a steak fry for the graduates and their families in the Student Center at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6th. The commencement ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. Ms. Cheryl Raboin will serve as Director of Ceremonies. President Jack Bottenfield will provide a welcome and introduce the guests on the stage. These guests include Jim Rose, the Board of Trustees, Foundation Members and EWC administrators. Kala Enevoldsen, President of the Student Senate, will provide a welcome on behalf of the students. Rose will then address the graduates. Dr. Ann Beaulieu, Vice President and Dean of Instruction, will Present the Candidates for graduation. Following will be the Presentation of Diplomas by Mr. Dale Wickham, President of the College Board of Trustees. Eastern Wyoming College Foundation President, Kathryn Kelly, will then present the 2005 Distinguished Alumni Award to Hortensia Soto' Johnson. The closing remarks will be delivered by Ms. Cheryl Raboin.
