EWC to Offer Degrees by Distance Education

April 20, 2005

(Torrington, WY) Eastern Wyoming College recently hosted an accreditation team from The Higher Learning Commission of North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). The team's task was to evaluate the possibility of EWC offering degree programs that can be completed by distance education.

EWC is hoping the focus visit will result in approval and accreditation of four existing degree programs by distance delivery.

The four programs under consideration are Business Administration-Associate of Arts, Criminal Justice-Associate of Arts, Interdisciplinary Studies-Associate of Arts and Associate of Science.

EWC currently serves the largest outreach area of all seven community colleges in the state. Associate Dean of Instruction Dr. Dee Ludwig expressed her enthusiasm for degrees being made available by distance education. "Being able to offer complete degree programs via distance methods is one more way we can serve our outreach area and our students. We have been building the numbers of course and the support services for distance education for the last several years. Our outreach coordinators are an integral part of our efforts in this arena."

EWC is now awaiting a report that will contain recommendations about the degree programs being considered. The distance education committee at EWC has worked very hard for several semesters in hopes of receiving a green light from NCA.

Distance delivery degrees could be available to residents of Wyoming and other states as soon as the Fall 2005 semester.
