Western Writers of America Youth Contest

TORRINGTON, WY - Western Writers of America, a national organization of professional writers, is sponsoring its annual Youth Contest to encourage and recognize excellence in writing. Students from 4th grade through 12th are eligible to enter in fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. All work must be Western in theme, drawing upon setting, characters, events, customs, or traditions of the American West, either historical or contemporary. Contestants must submit two copies of each work entered. The writings may be a maximum of 10 pages long in fiction or non-fiction and 7 pages in poetry.

Judges will award first, second, and third place in each category that has a sufficient number of entries. Winners will be notified shortly after May 1 and will be invited to attend an awards luncheon at the Western Writers of America convention in Cody, WY, on June 16. In addition to being a guest at the luncheon, winners will receive a certificate and a gift package from Western Writers of America.
