Eastern Wyoming College's Nominee for the Upcoming WyDEC Conference

March 22, 2006

Melissa Meeboer TORRINGTON, WY - Melissa Meeboer is this year's EWC Master Distance Educator nominee for the Wyoming Distance Education Consortium Conference. This conference is dedicated to best practices in teaching distance education classes and delivering services to distance education students. Meeboer was nominated and selected by the Distance Learning Committee on the EWC campus.

WyDEC includes representatives from the seven Wyoming community colleges, the University of Wyoming, Wyoming Public Television, and the Wyoming Community College Commission. The mission of WyDEC is to coordinate the delivery of quality, cost-effective, innovative distance education programs and courses. This is their sixth best practices conference.

Meeboer was selected for this nomination because she was one of the first instructors to jump on board and offer courses via distance delivery. She has now developed three complete courses online including Principles of Accounting I and II, and Introduction to Marketing. She is currently working on Business Math and Microcomputer Accounting. She provides positive leadership and a can-do attitude. She has been very helpful to others by sharing her expertise and by being a good resource and mentor for other online instructors. She has spent an incredible amount of time creating her materials and customizing them to meet the needs of the students in her classes. Her student evaluations are complimentary of her efforts to help her students gain a comfort level with the technology, as well as the content of her courses. Her incredible commitment to both help students be successful and to also promote high standards and expectations is inspiring.

Dr. Dee Ludwig, Associate Dean of Instruction comments, "Melissa has been among the first to embrace the technology involved in helping deliver distance courses to students throughout our six-county service area and beyond. I appreciate her dedication to helping our students and applaud the recognition this award gives her. She is very deserving of the honor."

The 2006 WyDEC Spring Conference will be held in Rock Springs, WY on May 23rd and 24th. For more information about this conference please contact Dr. Dee Ludwig at 307.532.8221.
