TORRINGTON, WY - Eastern Wyoming College men's and women's rodeo team members had a great showing at their own annual Lancer Rodeo held in Torrington April 21, 22, and 23. Several Lancers earned points in the long go and short go.
In the barrel racing, freshman Chelsie Schaefer finished third in the long go, third in the short go, giving her third place overall. That places her in sixth place in the Central Rocky Mountain regional standings.
Molli Pearman was quick enough in the goat tying to return to the short go on Sunday, but did not finish in the top five.
In the team roping, the EWC pair of Tyler Minor and Ty Allen had a strong showing and finished second overall.
Sophomore Lancer Brad Johnson won the long go in the tie down roping with team mate Jayce Johnson placing third. Neither caught their calf in the short go for an average placing. Steer Wrestling Lancer Mike Wiedman earned several points in the long go, short go, and average where he finished in fourth place.
EWC bull rider Kyle Lozier won the long go in the bull riding with an exciting 79 point ride.
Two EWC cowboys earned points in the saddle bronc riding. Transfer student Trent Zimmerman finished fourth in the short go. Derek Kenner was third in the long go, third in the short go, and finished second in the average. This strong performance shot Kenner to the top spot in the regional standings.
EWC rodeo coach Jake Clark was pleased with his teams' performance. "It is great to see Derek move into the lead. He has worked hard on his riding and it is paying off. Kyle has also moved back into the top three. Both of our bullriders have been great to watch this year. They try so hard and have made some great rides this year. We have one-third of our season left and there are a lot of points to gain. Anything can happen."
