September 24, 2007
The Eastern Wyoming College rodeo team kicked off the fall season in Riverton at the Central Wyoming College Rodeo this past weekend. The women's team got off to a great start; earning enough points for a second place team finish while the men's team ended up fourth.
"Our Women's team is off to a great start with several of them accumulating points already" Coach Jake Clark said.
Freshmen, Josie Davison of Miles City, Montana had two blazing barrel runs that put her in the position of placing second in the long-go and first in the short go.
Sophomore, Crystal Wortman of Highmore, SD ended up second in the average in the breakaway roping.
Chyann Howard of Laramie, WY and Andie Cross of Harrison, NE split first in the long go, and fifth overall of the breakaway roping.
"The men's team was led by Ty Kenner, by placing in all three of his events. Ty had a solid weekend and should be a strong all around contender this year. We had some tough breaks on the men's side but we will get stronger," added Clark.
Kenner placed second in the bareback riding, fourth in the saddle bronc riding, and fourth in the team roping with partner Brett Phipps also of EWC.
Logan McDonald finished fourth in the steer wrestling.
The next stop on the rodeo team's trail is Sheridan College this upcoming weekend.
