EWC's Opela wins All-around and Team Roping at NJC

The Eastern Wyoming College rodeo team traveled to Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado April 25-27 and competed in their annual college rodeo.

Leading the way for the Lancers was freshman Quincy Opela, Stapleton, NE. In the Team Roping, Opela placed first in the long-go, second in the short-go and first in the average with his partner, Chris Cover, Ashby, NE. In the Tie Down Roping Opela placed sixth in the long-go.

In the Team Roping, sophomore Jack Leiseth, Wall, SD and his partner sophomore Dirk Leiseth, Wall, SD, placed eighth in the long-go.

In the Bareback Riding, sophomore Ty Kenner, Wood Lake, NE, placed second in the short-go. Kenner also finished fourth in the long-go, second in the short-go and third in the average.

Also placing in the saddle bronc riding was freshman Garret Groshans, Paoli, CO. He placed tenth in the long-go.

In the Bull Riding, sophomore Lane Lindsay, Hot Springs, SD, placed second in the long-go, second in the short-go and first in the average.

In the Goat Tying freshman Josie Davison, Miles City, MT, placed fifth in the long-go and sixth in the average. Also placing in the Goat Tying was freshman Andie Cross, Harrison, NE. She placed ninth in the long-go.

In the Barrel Racing, Davison placed eighth in the long-go, fifth in the short-go and seventh in the average.

In the Breakaway Roping, sophomore Crystal Wortman, Highmore, SD, placed tenth in the long-go. Cross placed third in the long-go, third in the short-go and second in the average.

"Our men's team is in a great position to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo." Coach Clark Said. "Many of our athletes have moved up in the standings. It is all going to come down to this weekend!"
