EWC Instructor Featured Presenter at Annual ReVisioning the (W)hole Conference
September 16, 2010
TORRINGTON, WY -
The University of Wyoming will host the fourth annual "ReVisioning the (W)hole" conference on September 23rd in Laramie in the Coe Library. This conference highlights the intersections of art and science.
Eastern Wyoming College Art Instructor Daniel Fielder is one of the featured presenters at this year’s conference. His presentation entitled "Drawing, Psychology and Pop Culture" will highlight his recent work combining art (drawing), psychology and pop culture. His visual investigations create a connection between drawing and psychology. To create this connection, Fielder focuses on linear vocabulary for the reason that line is a human invention; there are no lines found in nature, just as psychological concepts are abstract and cannot be seen. Fielder is primarily interested in exploring male identity through investigating how males learn to be masculine from family members, popular culture, and archetypes created from these sources.
This is the third year in a row that Fielder has been invited to present at this event. His artwork is highlighted on the event poster.
"The goal of my work is to construct a new vision of the male identity, one that allows for vulnerability and refuses negative cues from culture and family that encourages men to be distant, ghost-like, or violent," shared Fielder.
