Criminal Justice Department: Program Description
Eastern Wyoming College offers two great programs in criminal justice. First, there is the Associates of Arts degree track, which can be done online,. This program is designed for the student interested in employment with agencies that require a 4-year degree, such as probation/parole and federal agencies, as well as those wanting to pursue a law degree. Upon completion, our students successfully transfer to schools like the University of Wyoming and Chadron State College. We also offer a non-transferable Associate of Applied Science degree for the student who wants to get a good understanding of the criminal justice system and enter the workforce as quickly as possible. All courses in the Associate of Arts degree are available in a three year rotation pattern via distance learning from Eastern Wyoming College.
With the new Medium Security Prison being constructed in Torrington, EWC’s criminal justice program is undergoing some changes. We are adding classes and modifying our existing law enforcement programs to include an optional corrections emphasis. Our goals are to prepare those seeking to begin a career in corrections and to further train those already working in the fields seeking advancement.
The full-time criminal justice faculty at EWC has years of professional experience in law enforcement and corrections, blended with excellent academic credentials. Also teaching in the program are members of local law enforcement agencies and the county attorney.
While attending Eastern Wyoming College the student has the option of joining the Criminal Justice Club. Participation affords the student the opportunity to travel, compete, and meet students and criminal justice professionals from all over the country.
