EWC Highlights Upcoming Community Education men’s quilting class

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington is offering a quilting class for men’s quilting class with members of the Goshen County Quilters Guild.

Step in to the world of quilting under the guidance of master quilters. A basic knowledge of machine sewing and your own machine is necessary. You will also need a good pair of sewing scissors and lots of straight pins. Other helpful supplies will be discussed at the first class.

If you have specific questions concerning the quilt project for this class call Jane Dorn at 307-640-4002.

This class will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays March 10-19 and Saturday March 21 from 6:30-9:00pm and 8:00am-4:00 pm on Saturday in the EWC Community Training Center. The cost is $35 plus quilt kit.

EWC Highlights Upcoming Youth Basketball Camp

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington is offering a Youth Basketball camp for children in grades 1-6.

Lady Lancers Assistant Head Basketball Coach, Neal Sherbeyn will be coaching this camp. Focus will be on building skills in dribbling, ball handling, passing/catching, shooting, running, and agility, as well as group cooperation. Coach Sherbeyn wants all participants to walk away with a positive attitude and a love for basketball.

This camp will be held Saturdays, March 7, 14, 21 and 28. Grades 1-3 will be from 8:30 – 9:45am and grades 4-6 will be 10-11:30 am in the EWC gymnasium. The cost is $35 and includes a t-shirt.

Wee Pals Preschool hosted the Lancer and Lady Lancer Basketball teams at their Valentine’s Day party. Students and teachers shared treats and competed in minute-to-win-it games with the Lancers.

EWC seeking employers to participate in Job Expo

Eastern Wyoming College is inviting all interested employers and business owners to participate in the 2015 Job Expo hosted by EWC and held in Torrington, Wyoming.  The Expo will begin at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 8th in the Verl Petsch, Jr. Activities Center Gymnasium and will conclude at 2:00 pm.

Participating employers will have an opportunity to meet and interview our current students who will either graduate in May or are looking for part-time or seasonal employment.  An invitation will also be extended to the general public in an effort to include job seekers from all segments of the community.

Employers interested in participating in the 2015 Job Expo can register online at ewc.wy.edu.  Employers registered by March 9th will be included in Job Expo marketing materials.

EWC Hosts Wyoming Academic Challenge

Eastern Wyoming College recently hosted the Wyoming Academic Challenge. Eight Wyoming high schools sent thirteen teams to compete. The two to five-member teams participated in four rigorous rounds of competition. Questions ranged from current events, mathematics and literature. Schools participating were: Big Piney, Cheyenne East, Douglas, Evanston, Lovell, Riverside, Sheridan and Tongue River.

Sheridan placed first with a total of 795 points. Second place went to Big Piney Team One with 770 points. Cheyenne East Team One placed third with 715 points. Big Piney Team One also won the small schools division.

The winning teams were presented with plaques and medals. Students on the overall first place team were presented with scholarships to attend EWC.

Eastern Wyoming College announces the Winter Concert that was scheduled for Wednesday, February 25 has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances.

EWC announces Disney on Ice: Worlds of Fantasy bus trip

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington announces tickets are available for the trip to see Disney on Ice: Worlds of Fantasy on Saturday, March 21 at the Budweiser Events Center, in Loveland, CO.  The cost of this trip is $60 and includes an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Watch as your favorite Disney characters from CARS, THE LITTLE MERMAID, TINKER BELL, and TOY STORY come to life right front of your eyes.  Thrill to high-speed stunts, dive into an enchanting undersea kingdom, enter the mystical world of Pixie Hollow, and sit on the edge of your seat while you experience heroic action-live and on the ice!

Not only will you and your family enjoy a wonderfully entertaining and magical show, but your ticket for this trip includes an all-you-can-eat luncheon buffet at Loveland’s Golden Corral Restaurant. Seating for this trip is limited to 37, so don’t wait too long to call and register.  Registration & payment deadline is March 13.

EWC students volunteer at Torrington Middle School

Men's Basketball Student VolunteersEastern Wyoming College men’s basketball players recently volunteered to unload and stack incoming food for the backpack program at Torrington Middle School.

The Goshen County School District Backpack Program distributes over 350 bags to 7 area school buildings each week. Volunteers gather on Wednesday evenings to fill and deliver the backpacks. The program began five years ago when Rick and Marilyn Cotant realized children were returning to school on Mondays having had nothing to eat over the weekend. Roberta Mullock is in charge of the Program now since the Cotant’s retirement.

EWC taking registrations for upcoming CDL course to be held in Torrington

Eastern Wyoming College will be offering a CDL course in Torrington, April 6th – 20th. Class will be held Monday through Friday, 7 am to 5 pm.   The registration deadline for this course is March 16th.

This class is designed for those individuals interested in getting a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or those who need a CDL for their job.  Employers needing CDL drivers or who are looking to train current staff should also inquire. Upon successful completion of this course, you will have your Class A CDL & D.O.T. physical so you will be ready for employment.

EWC announces New Online Courses: Intermediate Quick Books & Performing Payroll in Quick Books

Eastern Wyoming College has a program that makes it easy to take high-quality, noncredit online courses. EWC has partnered with ed2go to offer hundreds of online, instructor-led courses.

Many QuickBooks users only utilize a small portion of the available features. In this course, we’ll go beyond the basics as you master QuickBooks’ more advanced features and applications. You’ll learn how to enter price levels for inventory, track discounts and credits, and manage journal entries. Whether you’re a small-business owner, or a bookkeeper or accountant needing a QuickBooks refresher, this course will make you more confident and secure in accounting for your business.

Performing Payroll in QuickBooks 2015
Preparing payroll in any small business can be a daunting task. Whether you have one or 20 employees, the federal and state requirements are often the same! However, by using the payroll feature in QuickBooks 2015, you can master efficient techniques for creating paychecks, paying taxes, producing job costing reports, and generating forms and reports quickly and easily.

Instructor Scott Paxton is recognized as a Certified Public Accountant and holds master’s degrees in business administration and accounting. His background includes experience as a public accountant, a manager in the banking industry, an entrepreneur and a college business instructor. In addition, Scott has spent much of his career working closely with small business owners to help them successfully implement and troubleshoot the QuickBooks accounting program.
