EWC Highlights Upcoming basic Handgun Proficiency class

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington is now accepting enrollments for the following class.

Basic Handgun Proficiency (Wyoming Concealed Carry Permit Class) will be held Saturday September 12 from 8 – 5 pm. Class will be held in the Tebbet building room 131 from 8 am – 10 am and then at the TPD firing range from 10 am – 5 pm. This class will be taught by Sgt. Patrick Connelly with the Torrington Police Department with the cost of $40 Basic Handgun Proficiency or $60 for the concealed carry class.

Whether you are simply wanting to develop or improve your handgun safety skills and proficiency, or intend to apply for a Wyoming Concealed Carry Permit, this class will meet your needs. TPD Sgt. Connelly will provide instruction on core fundamentals of handgun safety, proper handling, transportation and storage, as well as handgun shooting specifics such as proper stance, correct grip, sight alignment, proper trigger press, and sight picture.

Individuals seeking a Wyoming Concealed Carry Permit will participate in an additional live-fire range session, during which specific carry permit issues will be addressed by Sgt. Connelly. Participants are responsible for providing their own handgun, holster and ammunition. Holsters, eye protection, ear protection and a hat with a brim are required equipment for the live-fire range sessions. Please do not bring guns or ammunition to the first class.

JOIN THE BUNCO SQUAD

The Fast Paced Dice Game for Everyone in the Family

Bunco is a fast-paced, progressive, two-team, social dice game that is perfect for everyone in the family. It takes no skill and is 100% luck. Bunco dates back to the late 1800’s and was especially popular during Prohibition in the 1920’s. It is estimated that in excess of 50 million people world-wide play Bunco on a regular basis and is considered the old fashioned game of the future. Registration is needed a count for each session to plan refreshments and prizes. This class will be held on Thursdays, September 10, October, 15; November 12; and December 10 from 6 – 8:00 pm. The cost for this class is $5 a person.

EWC announces Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Candlelight Dinner Theatre bus trip

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington announces tickets are available for the trip to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the Candlelight Dinner Theatre in Johnstown, CO on Saturday, September 12. The cost of this trip is $65 and includes meal, beverage & tip, upgrades are available for an extra charge. Registration deadline is September 4th.

Take a fantastic musical adventure with an out-of-this-world car that flies through the air and sails the seas. Based on the beloved 1968 film featuring a lively score by the Sherman Brothers of Mary Poppins fame, a down-in-his-luck inventor turns a broken-down Grand-Prix car into a fancy vehicle for his children and then, off they go to save their grandfather in a far-off land. Adapted for the stage by Jeremy Sams and Ray Roderick.

Registration Open for Torrington CNA Class

Eastern Wyoming College is now accepting registrations for a Certified Nursing Assistant  or CNA class to be held in Torrington. Classes will be Monday & Tuesday beginning October 19 through December 14, 5:30 – 9:30 pm.

The Community Connection at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington is offering the following classes.

2015 FALL SHOOTING CLAY LEAGUE -TRAP + SKEET + 5 STAND

Goshen County Shooting Club and EWC Community Education have partnered to host the 2015 Fall Clay Shooting League, 6 weeks of competitive shooting, with a set rotation of trap shooting, skeet shooting, and 5 stand shooting. This league is a great way to meet other shooters and improve your skills. It is a lot of fun and a great way to unwind after a stressful work day, the only thing better than the smell of shotgun powder on a spring afternoon is the smell of shotgun powder on a beautiful fall afternoon. Individuals and 2 man teams are welcome and Club membership is not required. This class will be held on Tuesdays from September 8 through October 13 from 5:30–7:30 pm. The cost of this class is $125 for individual or $240 for a 2 man team.

The Community Connection at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington is offering the following class.

PRESERVING YOUR FALL HARVEST—especially those tomatoes!

Instructor Gretchen Wollert of Pleasant Valley Green House wants you to know that preserving your garden crops (or Farmer’s Market purchases) can be easy, particularly using the “boiling water bath method”. In this hands-on class, you will experience the canning process, from start to finish, and during “boiling” Gretchen will share a whole lot of ideas and recipes for what to do with those green tomatoes. She will also share ideas on freezing tomatoes and other fall harvest. Gretchen will provide all the supplies needed, including tomatoes, peaches, and cucumbers for pickles, you provide your hands and interest. Everyone will get to take home jars of the preserved harvest. The deadline to register for this class is September 8. This class will be held on Wednesday September 9 from 6-8:00 pm. The cost of this class is $21.

EWC SkillsUSA students honored at National Championship

Eastern Wyoming College students recently traveled to the 51st annual National Leadership and Skills Conference. SkillsUSA is a showcase of career and technical education students. This national championship was held in Louisville, Kentucky.

Top student winners received gold, silver and bronze medallions. Many also received prizes such as tools of their trade or scholarships to further their careers and education.

Skill Point certificates were awarded in 86 occupational and leadership areas to students who achieved a high score defined by the industry. The following EWC students were Skill Point certificate recipients:

Michael Cole, Torrington, WY received a certificate for Prepared Speech. Team E which consisted of Shelby Cranston, Moorcroft, WY; Alyssa Barnsdale, Lusk, WY; Nathaniel Foster, Sutherland, NE; Kyle Sabourin, Farson, WY; Thomas Garvie, Torrington, WY; and Jacob Preston, Hawk Springs, WY were awarded a Skill Point Certificate in Chapter Business Procedure.

In Chapter Business Procedure a team takes a 100 question written exam concerning parliamentary law and then performs a mock meeting and conducts business utilizing intricate parliamentary motions.

SkillsUSA is an opportunity for individuals to challenge themselves in a vast variety of contests.

EWC to host Open House

Eastern Wyoming College will be hosting an Open House on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 from 2:30 – 5:30 pm.

Attendees are invited to tour the new additions at Lancer Hall and to stop by the Fitness Center to see the changes and meet the new director. Refreshments will be provided. This event is free and open to the public.

Eastern Wyoming Arts Council to hold open house

The Eastern Wyoming Arts Council will be hosting an open house with light refreshments on Monday August 17 from 6-7:30 pm in the EWC Fine Arts Auditorium. This is free and open to the public.

This open house will be an opportunity for the community to learn about the Fine Arts Council give input for future programming and become a member. Season tickets will be available for purchase.

EWC Highlights upcoming Hunter Safety class

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington will be having a Hunter Safety class August 10 through the 14 from 6-9:00 pm and Saturday August 15 from 9 am – noon.  The cost of this class is $25.

Wyoming Hunter Safety Certification—is required for all hunters born after 1966, or for hunting in certain parts of Wyoming; ages ten years and older recommended; must attend 12 hours of instruction and complete a test.

Scholarships are available and provided by the Goshen County 2-Shot Goose Hunting committee for students 8-17 residing in Goshen County. Materials will be provided at the first class.
