EWC Workforce Development to offer CPR/First Aid and CPR/Basic Life Support for medical personnel

The Workforce Development office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington is offering a CPR/BLS for medical personnel on Monday October 26 from 5:00-9:00 pm. This course is designed for medical personnel for initial or renewal of certification. This class will be held in the Community Training Center on the main campus in Torrington and will cost $45.

The CPR/First Aid class will be held on Tuesday October 27 from 5:00 -9:00 pm. This class will also be held in the Community Training Center and will cost $45. Participants will be certified in both CPR and First Aid by the American Heart Association. Teachers, coaches, early childhood providers and all are welcome.

EWC highlights announces new sessions of Fitness classes

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington announces that new sessions for fitness classes will begin on October 19th and 20th.

These classes include, Zumba, Pilates, Gentle Yoga AM, Retired Fellas, Men Only Yoga, Restorative Yoga PM, Mid-Day Gentle, Rejuvenation, and Mixed Level Yoga, Trim and Tone, Fitness on the Ball.

EWC highlights upcoming Community Education classes

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington is offering the following classes.

Travel Log: Barcelona, Southern France, Italian Riviera

Gail Heimbuck, EWC Outreach Coordinator in Guernsey, WY will share her most recent world travel adventure. Learn about the La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, ancient ruins in Nimes, Monaco, Cinque Terre, the French and Italian Riviera, Tuscany and Florence with its renaissance history.

Though distinctly different, each region Gail visited brought its own brand of culture, history, and architecture. This class will be held in Torrington on Monday, October 19th from 6 – 8:00 pm and is free and open to the public. Pre-registration is encouraged to assure adequate seating.

Italian Cuisine: The Art of Lasagna

Dick Gulisano will instruct this class to discover how easy this elegant dish can be to make. You will learn simple but delicious add-in ingredients that will bring your lasagna to the next level. This class will be held on October 22nd from 6-8:00 pm in room 117 at the Torrington High School and will cost is $25. The registration deadline for this class is October 20th.

EWC to offer Hobby Welding Studio

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington is offering a hobby welding studio class There will be three sessions with the first session will be held on Saturday, October 24th, the second session will be on November 14th  and the third session will be on December 5th. All sessions will be from 8:00am-12:00 pm. The cost is $45 per session.

All you need for this class is a little imagination and some scrap metal—such as bicycle chains & pedals, horseshoes, broken tools, bent spoons-forks-knives, nuts & bolts, hubcaps, just about any metal, and weld them into a one-of-kind sculpture, lamp base, wall hanging, wind chime or yard and garden art.

EWC Welding Instructors and students will be available to give you the guidance you need and you’ll pick up a few welding skills. Wear sturdy shoes and long sleeves. Loaner welding gloves and helmets will be available, but feel free to bring your own.

EWC Highlights Upcoming Community Education Youth Cheer Camp

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington announces an upcoming youth cheer camp.

Want to be a member of the CHEER ON cheer squad and perform at half-time for local basketball events? Learn the basics of cheerleading and work on warm ups, kicks and jumps, words to cheers, cheer routines, and mini stunts. The camp will be held on Mondays from October 19 through December 7th with no class on November 23rd. The cost of this cheer camp is $35 and includes a set of pom-poms or cheer flag and a t-shirt.

Cheer squads will take center court at the home games for the EWC Lancer Men’s & Women’s Basketball. This class is open to both boys and girls.

Lancer golf team finishes season with another win

Logan Harrison led the Lancers and won the tournament hosted by CWC.

The Eastern Wyoming College men’s golf team recently returned from a tournament in Riverton, WY, hosted by Central Wyoming College. The Lancers won the tournament with a two-day total of 622, twenty strokes ahead of second place McCook Community College who had a two-day total of 642. This marks the sixth tournament title in a row for the Lancers as their fall season is now concluded.

“Logan worked hard all season for his win and we were both happy to see him get it at the final tournament of our fall season,” shared Coach Zach Smith. “I am really proud of how the guys played this fall. They have really set themselves in a great position for the spring season.”

Leading the Lancers was sophomore Logan Harrison, Cheyenne, WY. Harrison won the tournament with a two-day total of 148. Individual scores for the team were as follows:
Adrian Torres, freshman, Madrid, Spain – 156, tied for 3rd
Ryder Velasquez, freshman, South Ogden, UT – 156, tied for 3rd
Jadyn Wayment, freshman, Ogden, UT – 162
Eric Lovell, freshman, Greeley, CO – 168

The spring season will begin in March 2016 for the Lancer golf team.

EWC men’s team brings home title from Lamar rodeo

The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer men’s rodeo won the team title at the recent rodeo hosted by Lamar Community College.  Several student-athletes qualified for the short round and placed in the average.

“The men’s team had another great weekend taking home their second title of the fall. The team ropers were solid as usual taking 5 of the top ten spots,” shared Coach Jake Clark.  “AJ made some great runs in the tie-down roping and steer wrestling which led the charge for our team.  Jamie Thompson is competing well as a freshmen and starting to move up in the standings.”

In the team roping the freshman team of Riley Curuchet, Kaycee, WY and Denton Shaw, Lusk, WY continue to secure their spot at the top of the Central Rocky Mountain regional standings with a second place finish at the rodeo.  Their time on two steers was 14.9 seconds.

The Lancer team had four other athletes also qualify for the team roping short round.  Sophomore Cody Lane, Torrington, WY and freshman Tyus Olson, Mud Butte, SD were third, sophomore Trevor Schnaufer, Pueblo, CO and partner Joby Barquin from Casper College were fourth.  Torrington sophomore Logan Milligan and partner Brady McCurry from Otero were 5th.  Also qualifying for the short round were brothers AJ and Tanner Freeman from Dunning, NE.

AJ Freeman also rounded out his weekend with a third place finish in the steer wrestling and a fifth place finish in the tie down roping.

In the goat tying, freshman Jamie Thompson, Lusk, WY, continues her climb in the regionals standings with a third and fourth place split in the average.

The Lancers will travel to Cheyenne October 9-11 to compete in the final rodeo of the fall season hosted by Laramie County Community College.
 

EWC announces a Fly Tying Club

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington is now accepting enrollments for the Fly Tying Club workshops. This workshop will be held one Wednesday of each month beginning October 14 from 6:30- 9:00 pm through December 9 with a cost of $12 per session.

Fly Tying Club is a chance to meet with fellow anglers, share and learn new fly tying recipes, and have a few hours with like-minded fly casting enthusiasts, chatting about all things fly fishing. This is not a class for beginners, there will be a beginner’s class offered in the spring semester. Club members are asked to sign up to bring a new fly recipe to one session to demonstrate and teach, along with any special materials to share with all members.

The membership fee for this offering will be used by Community Education to purchase refreshments for the club and supplies for the Beginner’s Fly Tying classes. Pre-registration by 10:00am on the day before each session is essential so the instructors of the session have an idea of what supplies will be needed.

EWC Highlights Upcoming Class

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington is now accepting enrollments for Beginning Leaded and Stained Glass workshop. This workshop will be held on Friday Evenings from 6-9:00 pm and Saturday mornings from 9:00 am- 12:00 pm October 23 through November 14 with a cost of $45.

In this 4 week workshop with new instructor Todd Greenamyre, you will learn how to work with stained glass, lead and zinc. A supply list, a choice of patterns and suggestions as to where to purchase glass will be available at the time of registration. Basic tools are provided, lead and zinc will be available for purchase. Please plan on attending a planning and information session on Monday, October 12 at 6:00pm in Tebbet room 131 to discuss pattern selection, purchase of glass and other supplies.

Registration deadline for this workshop is October 12 at 10:00 am.

Limited seating still available for Candlelight Dinner Theatre to see West Side Story

The Community Education department at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington are still accepting registrations for the upcoming trip to Johnstown, Colorado’s Candlelight Dinner Theatre.  This trip is Saturday, October 17. The bus will leave from the EWC parking lot at 9 am and return at 7 pm.  The cost of $65 includes meal, beverage and tip.
