EWC Highlights upcoming Hunter Safety class

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington will be having a Hunter Safety class Monday through Saturday April 3-8 from 5:30-8:30 pm and Saturday from 9 am – noon.  The cost of this class is $25.

Wyoming Hunter Safety Certification—is required for all hunters born after 1966, or for hunting in certain parts of Wyoming; ages ten years and older recommended; must attend 12 hours of instruction and complete a test.

Scholarships are available and provided by the Goshen County 2-Shot Goose Hunting committee for students 8-17 residing in Goshen County who pass the test. Materials will be provided at the first class.

EWC Highlights Volleyball Spring Training

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington is offering the 3rd annual Volleyball Spring Training.

Lady Lancers Head volleyball coach, Julie Sherbeyn will be coaching spring training for all area girls and boys ages 10-14 who are interested in improving their volleyball skills. This spring training series offers opportunities to develop fundamental volleyball techniques including serving, passing, setting, hitting, blocking, digging and serve receive.  Participants will also receive training in game concepts such as position play and defensive & offensive strategies.

This camp will be held Mondays and Thursdays beginning on March 27, through April 10 from 6:30-8:00 pm. The cost is $45 and includes a t-shirt.

EWC GEAR UP club to hold 5K Color Run

EWC GEAR UP 5k Color RunEastern Wyoming College GEAR UP Club will have a 5K color run on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. This run will begin in the front EWC parking lot.

Entrance fees will be as follows:
Individual runners will be $15.00
Teams with up to three runners will be $30
Teams with four or more runners will be $50.
Participants under 8 years old a donation only.

Participation in the color run will help the GEAR UP Club raise scholarship funds for GEAR UP students attending EWC.

EWC to host annual Job Expo

Eastern Wyoming College will once again host a Job Expo on Wednesday, March 22nd in Torrington, Wyoming.  Over 25 employers are expected to participate at this Job Expo and it is free and open to the public. Most positions are entry level however, there are some jobs that require a degree and/or experience

The Job Expo will begin at 10 am in the Verl Petsch Jr Activities Center Gymnasium at the College, and will continue until 2 pm.  Attendees should come prepared with a resume and be prepared for an interview.

The Eastern Wyoming College Livestock Judging team was invited to officiate and judge the FFA District 12 Livestock Judging Career Development Event (CDE) held in Kimball, Nebraska, to take reasons, and gave the final critique.  “This was a great opportunity for the students to see the other side of a judging contest” shared Livestock Judging Coach Dr. Georgia Younglove.  “Also, three of the students are Agriculture Education majors and will hopefully someday be FFA Advisors themselves.  This was a chance for them to get some hands on experience.”

The FFA students judged 7 classes: replacement ewes, keep/cull replacement does, market hogs, replacement gilts, Sim/Angus Bulls, Sim/Angus Heifers and Market Heifers.  Senior high school students gave 2 sets of reason while junior high gave one set. They also have two question classes.

EWC Students attending were Jory Carson, freshman, Lynch, NE; Kort Gartrell, freshman, Paxton, NE: Jaxson Heyrend, freshman, Evanston, WY; Hunter Hill, freshman, Scottsbluff, NE; Tracy Austin, sophomore, Rozet, WY; and Ashley Reese, freshman, Roy, UT.

EWC gave a one year full tuition scholarship to the Overall High Senior Individual which was won by Peyton Flower of Scottsbluff FFA.
