New Employees Introduced to Eastern Wyoming College

Eastern Wyoming College welcomed several new employees to campus this fall.

New faculty and staff members include the following:

Vicky Mayfield, from Colorado Mountain College, has been hired as a full time Math Instructor. Her qualifications include:
BA Math (University California-San Diego)
MA Math (University Wisconsin-Madison)
MA Ed (Colorado University-Boulder)
17 years as a tutor, Para or Instructor in High Schools and Higher Education.

Ian Cottrell Computer Technician. Ian worked for the Department of Corrections for seven years prior to coming to EWC and is 75% complete on a BS degree from Arizona State University in Computers.

Emilio Sanchez is a graduate of EWC Adult Education program and has been promoted to full time Custodian.

Brandon Burris is a graduate of EWC’s CDL program and has been promoted to full time Custodian.

Hank Krzyzanowski, originally from New York, is a retired Air Force veteran. He has been hired as a full time Custodian.

The Eastern Wyoming College Veterinary Technology Club will be holding a walk in dog wash on Saturday, September 2 beginning at 8:00 am at the Veterinary Technology building located at 3200 West C Street in Torrington. Walk-ins will be accepted until 11:00 am. A current rabies certificate is required to participate, rabies tags cannot be accepted.

Pricing for the dog wash is as follows:

Small Dog (0-20#) $8
Medium Dog (20.1-50#) $10
Large Dog (50.1 – 90#) $12
Extra Large Dog (90.1 and above) $14

Added charge for Long hair: (Require additional grooming and drying time)
Small – $3, Medium – $5, Large – $7, Extra Large – $9

Other Services:
Nail trim: $5

Please be aware that the veterinary technology club students do not groom past minor brushing. The students will not be doing any shaving. If the students cannot brush out the mats, they will be left.

Future dog washes will be held on October 8th, November 11th. And December 2nd.

Public Service Announcement

Eastern Wyoming College will be closed Monday September 4th in observance of the Labor Day holiday. The Fitness Center will be closed September 2-4th. Offices and the Fitness Center will reopen on Tuesday September 5th.

EWC Community Education announces concert series

The Eastern Wyoming College Community Education department is presenting a series of musical performance groups with Wyoming connections from genres of country blues, contemporary country, and country rock with an appeal to a wide variety of community members and EWC students.

The groups for this concert series were selected because of the strong Wyoming ties they hold, Wyoming natives currently or previously living in Wyoming, and they have made performing in Wyoming a priority.

Michael Hurwitz is a Wyoming based singer-songwriter with a style that falls somewhere between Delta Blues and Western Cowboy Swing. His performances are a compelling mix of stories and humor from a life well-spent, combined with outstanding musicianship, songwriting and a warm relaxed singing style. Michael Hurwitz and the Aimless Drifters will perform Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 7:00 pm in the EWC Fine Arts Auditorium. The cost for tickets is $15.

Singer-songwriter Jared Rogerson draws his inspiration from countless miles atop broke saddle horses traveling the rugged mountains near his home in Pinedale, Wyoming. His original songs have strains of musical genres including country, Americana, western and folk. He engages the audience with the stories behind each of his musical compositions. The Jared Rogerson Trio will perform on Saturday, October 7, 2017 in the EWC Fine Arts Auditorium at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $15.

The Patti Fiasco band is from Wyoming and composed of four members. Lead vocalist, Alysia Kraft is from Encampment, Wyoming. The band now resides in Ft. Collins, CO but they continue to play many Wyoming venues and are excited to be coming to Torrington. Patti Fiasco’s music has been described as a soulful brand of rock and roll, with a heavy dose of rockabilly, blues and ballad.

The Patti Fiasco’s will perform on Saturday, November 11, 2017 in the EWC Fine Arts Auditorium at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $15.

EWC Adult Education receives recognition

Eastern Wyoming College Adult Education (AE) program received recognition from the Wyoming Community College Commission at a recent annual conference. Recognized for the 6th year in a row, the AE program at EWC has met all federal performance measures.

“I am very proud of the hard work of the AE team and students because without their dedication and commitment to our retention and completion efforts this would not have been possible,” said AE Director, Diane McQueen.

EWC GEAR UP student represented community at Wyoming Girls State

Autumn Hoffman, Eastern Wyoming College GEAR UP student was selected by the American Legion Auxiliary to represent the community at the 75th session of Wyoming Girls State that was held in June.

The program emphasizes the importance of government in modern life and educates young women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship. It awakens a sincere conviction that a well-informed, intelligent, participating citizenry is vital to protect and preserve our America institutions and our democracy.

These goals are achieved by actual participation in a simulation of the political and governmental process.

“Thanks for the GEAR UP Program and staff at my school for all their help and support and always saying You Can Do It,” said Autumn Hoffman.

“I just want to say congratulations to one of our EWC GEAR UP (GU) students Autumn Hoffman. I’m so proud of her for setting her sights high, and making every effort to achieve her education goals,” said GEAR UP Director Judy Brown. “She worked hard and proved to herself and everyone what she is capable of. Autumn has been an outstanding GU student. Her growth personally and academically shows her relentless patience and persistence in everything she does,” continued Ms. Brown.

EWC chemistry instructor receives Wyoming NASA Space Grant

Eastern Wyoming College is pleased to announce that chemistry instructor, Dr. Sridhar Budhi received a one year $10,000 grant from the Wyoming NASA Space Grant.

“I plan to use this grant for two purposes: the purchase of nineteen Ipads and applications, to be used in at least one class during the Fall 2017 semester on a trial basis. My hope is to implement the use of Ipads in all of my chemistry classes in the Spring 2018 semester, I am hopeful this endeavor of using Ipads will enhance our student’s engagement in class and help them towards their retention and completion,” said Dr. Budhi.

“The second purpose is to help defray travel and lodging expenses so that I can attend the 255th American Chemical Society National Meeting to be held in New Orleans, March 18-22, 2018. Attending this meeting gives me the opportunity to know the best pedagogical practices adopted by instructors around the world,” continued Dr. Budhi.

Wyoming Space Grant sponsors educational and research programs in the state of Wyoming in support of NASA’s missions. We also serve as a link between citizens of the state and NASA programs. Wyoming Space Grant Consortium is one of 52 consortia representing each state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.  Our programs include research fellowships for students at Wyoming’s 2- and 4-year colleges, scholarship programs for community college students pursuing math and science careers, resources for Wyoming’s K-12 teachers, and educational programs for the general public.

Public Service Announcement

Eastern Wyoming College announces the college and Fitness Center will be closed from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, August 21st during the eclipse.

Runaway Equipment

Last Friday we had a little crash on campus.  A construction compactor collided with the Tebbet Building and caused some localized damage to the exterior brick and interior block walls. They were working on the replacement of the concrete plaza in front of the building when the accident occurred.

EWC announces dedication and open house for CTEC

Eastern Wyoming College has announced that the dedication and open house for the Career and Technical Education Center will be held on August 24, 2017.  The dedication will begin at 3 pm and will be followed by an unveiling of the art in the building and an open house until 6:30 pm.

Wyoming Governor Matt Mead as well as other dignitaries will be speaking and attending this event.

The public is invited to attend this event and tour CTEC which was funded by the State of Wyoming and Goshen County taxpayers. EWC instructors will be available for tours of the instructional space.

Many of the artists who were commissioned to provide art for CTEC will also be in attendance.
