Nesbitt receives recognition at Will Rogers Medallion Awards

John Nesbitt’s Good Water received a 2nd place medallion in the Western Fiction – Young Readers category at the Will Rogers Medallion Award Banquet, Death in Cantera placed 4th in Western Fiction.

John Nesbitt’s Good Water received a 2nd place medallion in the Western Fiction – Young Readers category at the Will Rogers Medallion Award Banquet, Death in Cantera placed 4th in Western Fiction.

John Nesbitt, instructor of English and Spanish at Eastern Wyoming College, was recognized for his work at the 14th annual Will Rogers Medallion Awards Banquet.

In the category of Western Fiction–Young Readers, Nesbitt’s book Good Water received a second place medallion. Death in Cantera received fourth place recognition in the category of Western Fiction.

There were 44 authors and publishers presented with Will Rogers Medallion Awards Honoring Excellence in Western Media in 12 categories.

“It is always an honor to be recognized for one’s work,” shared Nesbitt. “The competition has gotten harder, and the books were in tough categories.”

Originally created to honor outstanding volumes of Cowboy Poetry, the Will Rogers Medallion Award soon expanded into other categories as interest and reader demand increased. Will Rogers was an accomplished author as well as a cowboy entertainer, and the purpose of this Award is to honor this facet of his legacy as well as to highlight current books that embody strong content, excellent production values, and enduring interest.

EWC Turkey Trot 5K Fun Run/Walk results

The Fitness Center and Alumni Association at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, held a 5K Fun Run/Walk on Sunday, November 5, 2017 on the EWC campus.

There were eight age groups and the winners were:

10yrs-under – Grace Steinbock
11-19 yrs – George Elliott
20-24 yrs – Jared Pilkington
25-29 yrs – Nick Strampe
30-34 yrs – Chris Strampe
35-44 yrs – Jared Berger
45-54 yrs – Kent Swearingen
55yrs and over – Maggie Peterson

Winners in each division received a turkey.
