The Athletic Department at Eastern Wyoming College is pleased to announce the post-season recognition of members of the women’s basketball team.

Three players were named to the All-Region IX North Team. Those players are Mara Neira Conde, freshman, Galicia, Spain; Natalie Kalaydjiev, freshman, Vienna, Austria; and Montserrat Gutierrez Ibanez, sophomore, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain.

Freshman Ana Gascon Clapes, Barcelona, Spain, was named to the All-Region IX North Defensive Team.

“We are proud of these players,” said Coach Tom Andersen. “This is a reflection of the success that these players and the team accomplished this season.”

Eastern Wyoming College has been notified by the Higher Learning Commission of continued accreditation following action taken by the Institutional Actions Council of the Higher Learning Commission (IAC).

The HLC reaffirmation process looked at the following criterion.

Criterion 1. Mission. The institution’s mission is clear and articulated publicly; it guides the institution’s operations. This criterion and all related core components were met.

Criterion 2. Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct. The institution acts with integrity; its conduct is ethical and responsible. This criterion and all related core components were met.

Criterion 3. Teaching and Learning: Quality, Resources, and Support. The institution provides quality education, wherever and however its offerings are delivered. This criterion and all related core components were met.

Criterion 4. Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement. The institution demonstrates responsibility for the quality of its educational programs, learning environments, and support services, and it evaluates their effectiveness for student learning through processes designed to promote continuous improvement. This criterion and core component 4.B. was met with concerns which requires a follow-up interim report on assessment due 2/1/2023.

Criterion 5. Institutional Effectiveness, Resources and Planning. The institution’s resources, structures, and processes are sufficient to fulfill its mission, improve the quality of its educational offerings, and respond to future challenges and opportunities.

The following excerpt is from the official notification letter under the signature of Barbara Gellman-Danley, President:

“IAC continued the accreditation of Eastern Wyoming College with the next Reaffirmation of Accreditation in 2030-31. In conjunction with this action, IAC required the following interim monitoring.

Interim Report: An interim report due 2/1/2023 on assessment”

“Eastern Wyoming College employees worked tirelessly for the past ten years on the accreditation process.  Roger Humphrey was the EWC Liaison working with the Higher Learning Commission while many EWC staff and employees worked on each of the five criteria,” shared Dr. Lesley Travers, EWC President.  “This was a very unique experience in that HLC did most of their visit virtually.  EWC employees joined various Zoom groups participating virtually and responding to the various criteria and questions required of HLC.  One HLC member visited our Torrington and Douglas campus in person.  This was a very different experience for both EWC and HLC.”

The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer golf team competed at the McCook Community College tournament on April 8-9. The Lancers won the tournament with a score of 314. McCook CC was second with 324.

“The golf course at McCook is always a challenge, but throw in 20-30 mph wind gusts, and it becomes even more challenging,” said Coach Zach Smith. “Tomas and Brendan had great rounds on Thursday to help lead us to a 10 stroke lead going into day two. We had some guys excited to get their minds right and play aggressive on Friday but unfortunately the second day was canceled due to weather conditions. Overall it was a solid team win and we look forward to preparing to play in Sterling.”

Sophomore Tomas Kubata, Prague, Czech Republic, won the tournament with a score of 74. Other Lancer scores were as follows:

Johannes Lindstrom, freshman, Falkoping, Sweden, 82 – tied 6^th
Tim Van Stiphout, freshman, Hasselt, Belguim, 82 – tied 6^th
Russel Sprecher, freshman, Casper, WY, 83 – tied 9^th
Conrado Chozas, freshman, Madrid, Spain, 86 – tied 15^th

The Lancers were scheduled to play in Sterling, CO on April 15-16 but because of weather, the tournament has been moved to April 17-18.

Students: caps and gowns for graduation have arrived and are available for pickup in the EWC bookstore.

The week prior to graduation, you may stop by the bookstore and pick up your cap & gown along with an information sheet explaining everything you will need to know regarding the graduation ceremony.

If you are an Associate of Applied Science and/or Certificate major, your ceremony will be held at 10:00am – Friday, May 14th in the Verl Petsch, Jr. Gymnasium.

If you are an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science or Associate Degree in Nursing major, your ceremony will be held at 2:00pm – Friday, May 14th in the Verl Petsch, Jr. Gymnasium.

Brendan Thomas

The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer golf team competed in the Lamar Community College tournament April 1-2 where the Lancers won the tournament with a score of 574. McCook Community College was second with a score of 590.

“Brendan played insanely well on Thursday. It’s fun to hear the stories that start floating around the course when someone is playing lights out, I’m glad it was one of our guys and it was true,” said Coach Zach Smith. “It was good to see him finish strong and -7 for the tournament. The top 5 were comprised of all freshmen, so it was great to see them perform well to help bring home the second win of the season. We’ll face the toughest course in the region next, so we are working to get ready for the challenge that awaits us in McCook.”

Leading the Lancers was freshman Brendan Thomas, Farmington, UT. Thomas shot 64 in round 1 and 69 in round 2 for a two-day total of 133, 8 strokes ahead of second. Other Lancer scores were as follows:

The Lancers will play in the McCook Community College tournament April 8-9.

The Community Education office at Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington has announced that the date for the wooden “Buckin Horse” class has been changed. This class was originally scheduled for May 8. The new date will be May 22 from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm in CTEC 111 and will cost $55.

You will make a large wall (or fence) hanging (approx. 3ft square) using recycled wood with the Wyoming Cowboy Buckin Horse on it.  Adding “307” will be offered as an option.  Wear your paint clothes and your gloves as this is a hands on project.  All materials are provided.
