Job Summary:
- Ensure the overall health and well-being of animals kept/owned by EWC for Veterinary Technology (VT) and Agriculture (Ag) Departments/purposes
- Ensure compliance with IACUC and CVTEA standards
- Complete, track, and report paper and computer records associated with the care, treatment, and housing of animals
- Schedule/coordinate part-time employees, students, and Work Study staff to care, feed, and clean all animals and their housing facilities in VT & Ag Depts
- Work location is the College’s Main Campus in Torrington
Essential Duties:
- Schedule others to care/feed animals owned/assigned by VT & Ag Depts
- When others are unavailable, care/feed animals (lrg & sm) & clean/disinfect and maintain VT & Ag animal housing facilities (e.g. kennels, cages) to include weekends, holidays, and College closure/vacation days
- Communicate with Attending Veterinarian/Vets about sick/injured animals
- Work around, restrain, lift, and move animals for their care/treatment
- Lift, carry, load/unload, and move animal feed/manure in wheel barrows or other device over uneven terrain
- Help medically treat animals under direction of licensed Vet; administer medications, perform exams, grooming, and emergency diagnostics
- Complete/track/report animals’ care/treatment on paper/computer records
- Order, receive, stock inventory levels of animal care, feed, and vet supplies
- Work with IACUC to ensure required/accurate documentation is logged
- Monitor/oversee maintenance of animal housing facilities; submit Work Order requests as needed for repairs
Qualifications:
- Associate of Applied Science in VT from an accredited program
- Previous work experience as Veterinary Technician to include large animals
- Successfully passed VTNE or successfully pass VTNE within one year
- Bachelor degree & two years’ full-time Vet Tech work experience preferred
- Current and valid state-issued Driver License
Hiring Range: $27,540.00 – $30,399.00 annually (depends on Education and Experience)
