President’s Notes Posts

If you missed the last home games; you missed some real fun.  Two people kissed a pig- it even squealed with delight with one of the kissers (can’t say who it was, but it was a student……:)  On February 16 we will be doing a Mob Dance and YOU are invited to join us.  By the way, we have been having some great half time fun too so come join us.  Support YOUR Lancers!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!!

Happy Valentine’s Day to you!  I have no plans since the first dude is in Casper with my mom.  But I think Dufus and I will take a nice long walk and spend some quality time together.  We might even share a Beggin Strip.  Don’t have plans today?  You should!  Call someone and go out and have an ice cream cone or out for dinner some place special.  We only have one of these days a year…… so take advantage of it and spend it with your honey or a good friend.

Mardi Gras Time!!!

Today is Fat Tuesday!  Oh yes, that wonderful day where everyone can pig out and have a reason to.  If you have not experienced Mardi Gras….. fear not… you can.  Simple as some beads, masks, good creole music, and some gumbo.  Lots of recipes out there, but hey if you are interested in making this dish….. send me a message and I will send you the recipe.

Community Workforce Needs

So yesterday, I met with a few community members to discuss workforce training needs.  A few things that I think anyone can take away from this is:

  • Soft skills knowledge:  Be to work on time; don’t ask about raises/promotions after your first week… prove yourself.
  • Job Seeking skills:  How to complete a job application the right way; how to dress for an interview and the job and how to be part of a team.
  • Reading, Writing and Arithmetic matter!  Still!
  • Stay off the cell phone!
  • Lots of people have great technical skills….. but don’t know people skills.  How to respond to customers, how to work with others, appropriate manners, etc.
  • So want to get a job after your college education?  Meet with your college success team to help you with resumes and job applications and interviews!  Be the winner that you can be……. get that JOB!

Sagebrush and Roses

So this will be my first official ball at EWC and the first dude and I are rather excited.  He is wearing something besides jeans…….. and I suspect will look better than usual.  I have a fabulous gown and hope it fits.  It did when I got it, but you know how that goes.  Wednesday morning biscuits and gravy at the school cafeteria; a few of their specials like chicken fried steak, burritos, etc. and next thing you know the gown does not fit.  So, I have plan B.  Let’s hope I don’t have to use plan B.  You still have time to buy your tickets.  Call Holly Lara at 532-8397 to get your reservations.  Don’t miss out on the BIG EVENT in Torrington for Eastern Wyoming College.

Basketball Home Games!!!

The Women’s Lancer play McCook on Friday, January 19th at 5:30 p.m. at home.  The Men follow at 7:30 playing McCook.  At half-time we will honor our Golf Team with their Region IX Championship.  Saturday follow basketball at home.  The Lady Lancers play North Platte at 2:00 and the men play North Platte at 4:00.  The action is right here in Torrington.  Join us!

Go Lancers!

We are back!!!!

So college officially starts tomorrow.  Several of us were talking this morning and we all agreed that the college is awful quiet without students on campus.  So….. we are looking forward to the halls being busy, students in the cafeteria, parking spaces taken….. all of the usual signs of student life.  It is almost too quiet and parking is way too easy early in the morning.  It is always good to see our students back on campus.  The games were not as well attended either.  So…………………. students we will be glad to see you again!

Seasons Greetings!

EWC closed at noon today so that our staff could enjoy a short holiday break with their families.  Students are traveling, faculty are done with grades and a little R and R is called for.  I have seen lots of EWC people work hard this semester and I am very proud of this college.  Everyone has stepped up and taken on a little more and it shows.  Our enrollment is up for spring; so we are headed in the right direction.  If you have not been on EWC campus for awhile; come up!  Or if you have not seen the Douglas campus; go see it.  Someone will give you a tour….. guaranteed.  Our doors will be open again on January 2nd.  In the meantime, enjoy your holidays and Happy New Year!

Christmas Tree Decorating Contest

So if you haven’t seen the trees in our buildings all over campus, you have to take a walk and see them all.  Even the maintenance guys put up a tree!  Please go see them!  Christmas spirit is thriving on our campus!  Thanks to everyone who participated.
