Adult Learning Center – Testing
Assessments
These assessments are available through Adult Learning Centers throughout the EWC service area.
TABE 9 & 10
All ABE and GED learners are given the TABE 9 and 10 examinations for pre/post testing purposes. This test is a 3 1/2 hour test and is part of the orientation process into our program.
Exam length
Reading: 50 minutes
Language: 55 minutes
Mathematics: 74 minutes
The test provides valuable information regarding student strengths and weaknesses in reading, writing, and mathematics. Instructors use the information provided by these tests to help students improve the skills they need in order to successfully meet personal goals.
Post testing of students occurs once students have reached 60 hours of instruction, completed a program of study or as approved by the Program Director. Post test results are used to help identify goals met as well as a means by which instruction should be refocused.
Official GED Practice Tests (OPT’s)
Students who wish to take the GED examination are also required to take the Official Practice GED. This test replicates the GED test format in all five sections: Reading, Writing, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics. Practice test times are exactly 1/2 of the actual GED test times for each of the individual areas. It is the policy of the ABE center at EWC that these tests are given to all enrolled students at no cost to the student.
