A Diversity Committee was developed to identify and implement diversity initiatives at Eastern Wyoming College including:
• Multicultural Diversity Student Club
This student club was established in 2011. Members attend cultural events/activities including attending the Cinco de Mayo celebration in Denver this past May; they participate in community service activities such as the Chamber-sponsored Trunk or Treat event; and they help sponsor multicultural events that are open to all students such as movie night which recently featured the movie, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.
• Diversity Coordinator
The Diversity Coordinator supports the College’s efforts to increase the level of diversity related activities on campus by serving on the Diversity Committee, co-sponsoring the Multicultural Diversity Student Club, helping develop Community Information Sessions, meeting with Hispanic families to explain or interpret college information, and serving as a co-advisor to assist Hispanic students throughout their college term.
• Community Information Sessions
College information sessions are scheduled each semester to share information with high school students and their families about Eastern Wyoming College. This includes how to apply for admissions; classes and available majors; scholarships and financial aid; Concurrent and Dual Enrollment opportunities; and student support systems. The next session is scheduled for November 18, 2014.
• The Corner
The Corner—El Rincón is a strategically located area between the cafeteria and the Student Center which displays a Welcome Sign in multiple languages, the “Where in the World are You From” display board where students can “pin-point” their home towns, and a permanent display case featuring group-sponsored monthly multicultural displays. Scheduled displays for 2014-2015 include:

• International Efforts
The International Subcommittee is under the College Diversity Committee. Efforts from this subcommittee resulted in the College hosting a Fulbright Scholar in Residence this past year from Romania. The subcommittee’s efforts now focus on the implementation of the Executive Office Assistant certificate. This program is specifically designed for students from northern Mexico who wish to pursue a one-year course of study that will familiarize them with basic office technologies, as well as offer a chance to strengthen their spoken and written English. This cross-department initiative includes committee representatives from the admissions, business, English, learning, and instructional technology offices working in close collaboration to offer a tailored curriculum, personalized recruitment, and strong after-arrival support system.
