Eastern Wyoming College Athletic Director Tom Andersen has announced the selection of assistant coaches for the upcoming men’s and women’s basketball seasons. Women’s assistant coach will be Lizette Heredia. Men’s assistant coach will be Jason Bivens.
Heredia played for Coach Andersen for two seasons. She is recovering from a knee injury and was unable to continue playing at the next level at this time. “I am pleased to have Lizette join the coaching staff. She has a great feel for the game and was like a coach for us on the floor. She will be a great asset on the bench. This will also give her the opportunity to get healthy so she can then move on with her career,” shared Andersen.
“I was honored to be asked by Coach Andersen to join his team. As a former player, I understand how he likes to run his program so I hope to be helpful,” shared Heredia. “I am also looking forward to the experience of coaching players who are close to my own age.”
Heredia will also have additional duties in the residence halls at the college.
EWC men’s coach Neal Sherbeyn is also looking forward to a great season. “I appreciate Jason being able to come on board with me. He brings a lot of knowledge to the table and a tremendous work ethic to the program. Jason also has excitement for the players and wants to see them succeed. I know he will be a great asset and I am looking forward to working with him.”
Assistant coach Bivens was a former collegiate athlete and has a tremendous amount of coaching experience.
“I love coaching,” shared Bivens. “This is a great opportunity and I look forward to helping the young men become successful student-athletes. I actually began coaching basketball when I was 18 in my Dad’s youth program.”
Andersen added, “As athletic director I’m very excited in the naming of these assistant coaches. They both bring a lot of energy and excitement to the respective programs. I know our fans will enjoy the energy, desire, and work ethic of these coaches as it transcends to our student-athletes. Our fall kickoff and promotional nights are in the planning and we look forward to providing our fan base with a great product.”
