Tom AndersonEastern Wyoming College is pleased to announce that Tom Andersen has been appointed as the interim athletic director for the 2015-2016 academic year.  Andersen has worked at EWC since 2007 as the head coach of the women’s basketball team.  He will remain the head coach and take on the role of athletic director.

“I am excited to accept the appointment of athletic director at EWC,” shared Coach Andersen.  “I am looking forward to continuing to move our teams to a higher level and to expand and build on past success and to be competitive not only within Region IX and the Central Rocky Mountain Region but nationally as well.  We want teams that are exciting for our fans to watch and teams that they are proud to support.  I want to uphold the integrity of Lancer athletics.”

Longtime men’s basketball coach Casey Jones has announced his resignation.  Jones has led the men’s program since 2007.  College officials are currently working on naming a replacement.

“This has been such a tough decision for me over the last couple months and even over the last year, but a decision had to be made!  My love and pride for EWC was put up against my love and pride for my family and my new role at home and in life,” shared Coach Jones.  “I feel like my family, the most important people in my life, now need my evenings and weekends and a majority of my time.

I am so appreciative that EWC has allowed me to coach basketball and golf and teach classes over the past eight years.  My interaction with everyone at EWC, in the community of Torrington and especially the 100s of student-athletes will never be forgotten, and something of which I am very proud.”

Jones added, “My final decision became much easier over the last month as the college has made some very brave decisions in the athletic department. Now I feel like the programs will be very safe and able to move on in a very competitive direction keeping in mind that it’s all about the student-athlete and their success as a college student.  It is a great time to have a new coach take over.  The program has eight returners and we have recruited very good freshman to help them out! I know the future will be bright at EWC and I will miss it very much!”

“Losing Casey Jones as our head men’s basketball coach was disheartening. Unfortunately he felt that he had to choose between the demands of his job and his obligations as a father.  His family won out.  How could they not,” added Dr. Rick Patterson, EWC President.  “However, I’m excited with the direction that EWC’s athletic department is headed.  Building on the momentum and some positive changes started last year, I know Coach Andersen will continue the progress and I look forward to his leadership.”
