EWC bull to participate in performance testing

The Veterinary Technology department at Eastern Wyoming College has announced that one of the department’s registered, fullblood Lowline bull calf has been entered in a first-time Lowline bull test which is sponsored by the Western States Lowline Association (W.S.L.A.).

LC Captain Perfect 2D, also known as Captain Perfect, has already been transported to Ft. Lupton, CO where he will spend the next several months for the testing and will be sold in a sale to be held next spring.

“Participation in this data-gathering event should certainly be a learning experience for students and instructors alike,” stated Dr. Edwin Bittner, veterinary technology instructor.

The Western State Grass-Fed Performance Bull Test is the first of its kind for the Lowline breed.  The Moderator and Fullblood Bulls on the test will be turned out on improved pasture including cover crops and small grains.  Bulls will also be supplemented with a grass fed ration including native and alfalfa hay.

W.S.L.A. has put up $2,000 in prize money for the top bulls in each category.

Captain Perfect was donated to the college’s veterinary technology program by Dr. Bittner.
