Institutional Scholarships

For GEAR UP students attending UW

The University of Wyoming (UW) sets aside $150,000 each year to aid former GEAR UP Wyoming students in their pursuit of a bachelor’s degree at UW. The UW GEAR UP Institutional Scholarship criteria include specific requirements and are awarded to students who have demonstrated regular participation in the GEAR UP program. Eligibility requirements will be verified by each applicant’s host GEAR UP site.

The UW GEAR UP (GU) Institutional Scholarship application is open from October 1 – April 1. New awards are made every fall semester. Additional awards may be made in the spring semester on a funding available basis and will be made using the applicant list from the previous fall.

*Please note that the spring semester application cycle has been eliminated. The final application cycle is open now and will close on November 1, 2018.

Please follow the steps below to apply for the UW GEAR UP Institutional Scholarship.

1. Apply for admission to the University of Wyoming.
2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by January 15. Complete the FAFSA verification process by April 1.
3. Complete the UW GEAR UP Institutional Scholarship Application.
4. Watch your email for messages concerning your aid and make sure you file the proper paperwork when requested before any deadlines pass.

Students only need to apply for the scholarship once. There is no need to reapply each year; however, there are continued eligibility requirements that are reviewed each semester.

Continued Eligibility Requirements:

• File your FAFSA by April 1 each year. Priority will be given to FAFSA applications completed by March 1 each year. Any verification requirements must be completed by June 1.
• Maintain continuous enrollment (fall/spring)
• Maintain good academic standing as defined by your institution
• Maintain satisfactory academic progress as defined by your institution
• Complete a bachelor’s degree within 6 years (maximum 12 full/part-time semesters)
• Maintain current contact/mailing and current attending institution information with the GEAR UP Wyoming office

Wyoming Community College Institutional Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded to former GEAR UP Wyoming students who are attending Wyoming community colleges. Most community college partner institutions have funds they award specifically to former GEAR UP Wyoming students. Scholarship eligibility criteria are determined by the individual community college.
