The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer golf team recently returned from Sterling, Colorado where they played in a tournament hosted by Northeastern Junior College. The Lancers finished the tournament in second place with a two-day total of 599. McCook Community College won the tournament with 595.
“The guys struggled during their Thursday round and dug themselves into a significant hole heading into the second day,” shared Coach Zach Smith. “They battled back and went on to play very well on the second day but just fell short of catching McCook. Ryder shot -3 par the second day and Adrian shot -1 par to help cut the deficit from 16 strokes to 4 strokes by the end of play Friday. I could not be more proud of the way they responded and rallied. We are looking forward to our home tournament this week.”
Leading the Lancers were sophomore Logan Harrison, Cheyenne, WY and teammate Adrian Torres, freshman, Madrid, Spain with a two-day total of 148. The pair were tied for 3rd. Other scores were as follows:
Ryder Velasquez, freshman, South Ogden, UT – 149, tied 5th
Eric Lovell, freshman, Greeley, CO – 156
Denton Shaw, freshman, Lusk, WY 157
The Lancers will host their home golf tournament on April 21, 22 at Cottonwood Golf Course in Torrington.
