The Eastern Wyoming College golf team finished the regular season with a second place regional finish. Due to their performance throughout the season, the team’s overall low stroke average qualified them for an at-large bid from District I. The Lancers will travel to the NJCAA National Tournament Championship to be held in Newton, KS, May 12–15.
The Lancers officially earned the right to go to the NJCAA National Tournament with an eight stroke lower average than Estrella Mountain Community College from Arizona. There are two regions in the District and each one gets an automatic bid to this prestigious tournament. There are three at large spots available for this tournament and EWC is one of those teams to receive a spot. This is the first time ever that the Region IX will send two teams to this tournament.
“We were excited about the opportunity to compete at last year’s tournament. This year, we are returning to the tournament with players who attended last year with hopes of having a better performance” said Zach Smith, golf coach. Smith added that, “our performance at the spring tournaments were a lot better than the fall and we are looking forward to carrying that momentum with us to the national tournament.”
All Region Performers were Aaron Nirider, sophomore, Riverton, WY, finishing 6th in the region, Josh Wilson, sophomore, West Haven, Utah, finished 9th in the region , Logan Harrison, freshman, Cheyenne, WY, had a strong region finish with 3rd place.
