EWC golfers win McCook tournament

The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer Golf team brought home the win from the McCook tournament held September 28-29. The Lancers finished with a score of 605, 18 strokes ahead of the host team, McCook, who finished with 623.
“This is a tough course and I was pleased with how our team played,” shared Coach Zach Smith. “We have two tournaments left this fall and I am looking forward to finishing strong. The players have put themselves in a good position this fall season.”
Leading the Lancers was freshman Gonzalo Arcelay Fernandez-Meras, Munguia, Spain, who finished with a two-day total of 147 (73-74), winning the tournament. Other Lancer results follow:
Trey Massey, sophomore, Lander, WY – 78-70 — 148, 2nd
George Elliott, freshman, Salisbury, UK – 78-72 – 150, 4th
Kash Kaufman, freshman, Torrington, WY – 78-78 – 156, tied 5th
Jared Pilkington, sophomore, Scottsbluff, WY – 79-88 – 167
Malosi Togisala, freshman, Ogden, UT – 86-81 – 167
In the regional standings, the Lancers are leading the team standings with a total of 37 points, McCook has 31. Individually, Arcelay Fernandez-Meras is in first place with 24 points, Massey, second with 23 points, Togisala and Elliott are tied for fourth/fifth with 16 points. Kaufman is sitting eighth with 11 points.
The Lancers will compete at the Otero tournament October 5-6.
