EWC to hold Veterans Day Celebration

Veterans Day CelebrationEastern Wyoming College will honor veterans with a special celebration to be held on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 12:30 pm, in the Fine Arts Auditorium in Torrington, WY. The program is free and open to the public and will include the presentation of the colors by American Legion Post #5, and guest speaker, Ms. Valerie Baker, USAF, Lt. Colonel, Retired.

Lt. Colonel Valerie Baker, USAF recently retired after 25 plus years of service. At her first assignment she served as Lead Communications Officer on the floor in the United States Strategic Command’s Command Center while based at Offutt AFB, NE.

She was deployed seven times during her career, the first to Bosnia-Herzegovina with Stabilization Forces and the last deployment was to the Philippines with the Joint Special Operations Task Force.

Baker has also held assignments at FE Warren AFB, WY, Naples, Italy, Fort Huachuca, Arizona, Iraq, Randoph AFB, TX, Lackland AFB, and San Antonio, TX.  At her last assignment she was Chief of Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center (AFOTEC) Operating Location-Kelly Texas.

Lt. Colonel Baker started her career as a Lieutenant and was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel July 1, 2008 in Baghdad.  She has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, and the Joint Service Achievement Medal.

She is from Minatare, NE and since her retirement has returned home to the family ranch. In addition to her military career Lt. Colonel Baker competes in local rodeos and gymkhanas, regional circuit shows and state rodeos as well as several world-wide associations and organizations.  She is a member of the United States Team Roping Champion Association, National Reined Cow Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association, American Quarter Horse Association, and Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association.
