EWC to host 2nd tandem lecture series: Utilizing Mediation Techniques in Criminal Justice Field tandem lecture series

Wednesday, October 4th, 2017 • 2:00 pm

Eastern Wyoming College will host a tandem lecture series titled “Utilizing Mediation Techniques in Criminal Justice Field” featuring Melanie Worsley, Assistant Professor, Criminal Justice/Legal Studies Department, School of Applied Sciences, a visiting speaker from Washburn University.

This lecture is sponsored by the EWC Criminal Justice Department and will be held in the CTEC building room 101 on Wednesday, October 11 at 6 pm and is free and open to the public.

Although use of force issues have become a hot topic, criminal justice professionals do more than decide whether use of force is legally justifiable—they must also know how to manage conflict. Mediation training provides criminal justice professionals with tools they can use to manage conflict.

In this presentation, Melanie Worsley will use hands-on training to introduce mediation concepts and principles and will explore ways that criminal justice professionals can use mediation techniques in the field. She will also discuss the need for criminal justice professionals to have conflict management skills and the role Washburn University’s mediation program plays in helping undergraduate criminal justice students develop these necessary skills.
