EWC Lancer Golf team conclude season with several awards

The Eastern Wyoming College golf team just concluded their season at the final tournament held in Riverton.  Due to the weather, the tournament was a one-day, 18 hole round.  The Lancers won the tournament with a score of 314.  McCook finished second with a score of 329.

Two Lancers split the win with a score of 75 – sophomore Denton Shaw, Lusk, WY and Harry Walch, Staines, England.  Other scores for the Lancers were as follows:

Adrian Torres-Ruiz, sophomore, Madrid, Spain – 80, 6th
Jared Pilkington, freshman, Scottsbluff, NE – 81, 7th tie
Arvy Shongwe, freshman, Ezulwini, Swaziland – 83, 9th tie
Eric Lovell, sophomore, Greeley, CO – 85, 12th tie

In the Region IX individual golf standings for the year, Walch finished in 1st place, Shongwe in 4th, Torres-Ruiz in 5th and Shaw in 7th.  Walch and Shongwe were 1st Team All-Region IX while Torres-Ruiz were 2nd Team All-Region IX.

The Lancers won the Region IX standings and are preparing for Nationals which will be held at the Buffalo Dunes golf course in Garden City, KS.

Coach Zach Smith has also been notified that Walch also won 1st in the District.  The District includes the community colleges in Region IX and the community colleges in Arizona.

“This is the first time in Lancer Golf history that we have had a player win the District title,” shared Smith.  “Harry worked hard all season and it really paid off.  I’m excited to see how all of these students perform at nationals.  They are a talented group and I have really enjoyed them.”

Nationals will be held May 16-19.
