EWC Lancer Rodeo team continues CNFR Quest

The quest to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo continues as the Eastern Wyoming College Lancer rodeo team competed in the annual college rodeo hosted by Casper College.
The team roping team of Derek Weinreis, Beach, ND and Levi O’Keeffe, Mohall, ND have clenched the Central Rocky Mountain Region team roping title and will move on to compete at the CNFR held in Casper in June.
AJ Freeman, Dunning, NE, won the first round of the steer wrestling with a time of 4.3 seconds. He finished the rodeo 4th in the average. Teammate Tyler Thorson, Towner, ND, also qualified for the short round.
In the tie down roping, freshman Trey Yates, Pueblo, CO was 4th in the average while teammate Carson Musick, Pierre, SD split fourth and fifth in the first round.
Saddle bronc rider Lane Hall, Winner, SD split 2nd and 3rd in the first round and finished the average in 2nd place. Josh Davison, Miles City, MT, was 5th in the first round and 4th in the average.
The EWC team roping team of Dustin Dailey, Long Pine, NE and Casey Packer, Sturgis, SD were 5th in the average. Also placing in the team roping were Cody Colman, O’Neil, NE and partner Ty Sierks, Brewster, NE; they were 5th in the first round.
EWC cowgirl Bailey Schaack, Hyannis, NE, finished the weekend in 4th place in the average of the barrel racing.
“Several of our athletes are heading into the final rodeo of the season in a good spot for qualification,” shared Coach Jake Clark. “It will be an exciting finish to a great year. We have lots of our younger team members really coming on strong here at the end. That makes me excited to see what next year will bring for us.”
The team will travel to Laramie this weekend to compete in the final rodeo of the season hosted by the University of Wyoming.
