EWC Men’s Rodeo Team moves to first place

The Eastern Wyoming College Rodeo team completed the fall 2012 rodeo season this past weekend at the Laramie County Community College (LCCC) Rodeo in Cheyenne, WY. The EWC Men’s Team moved into first place in the regional standings and many individuals are holding good positions in the standings.
“The top two teams in the region qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo,” Jake Clark, Eastern Wyoming College Rodeo Coach, said. “It is great to be in first place after the fall rodeos. The Men’s team is full of talent and very competitive; they can’t wait to start up again.”
Veteran team member Troy Wilcox, of Red Owl, SD leads the region in the all-around standings and the team roping header, he is third in the steer wrestling and seventh in the tie-down roping. “Troy is an outstanding competitor and a great team leader,” Clark said.
Wilcox finished second in the steer wrestling average at the LCCC rodeo. Freshman Cameron Morman, of Glen Ullin, ND won the short round and finished third in the average. Freshman Dustin Dailey, of Long Pine, NE placed fifth in the average.
Three EWC teams qualified for the short round in the team roping. The sophomore duo of Derek Weinreis, of Beach, ND and Levi O’Keefe, of Mohall, ND won second in the average. Weinreis and O’Keefe, are in second place in the regional standings in the team roping. Troy Wilcox and freshman Cotey Hanson, of Berthold, ND placed third in the average, extending their first place lead in the regional standings.
Freshman duo of Dustin Dailey and Denum Santero, of Minatare, NE placed fifth in the first round of the team roping.
In the saddle bronc riding, freshman Josh Davison, of Miles City, MT finished second in the first round and sophomore Trey Fortune, of Milesville, SD finished sixth.
For the Women’s Team, sophomore, Mardee Sierks, of Brewster, NE won the final round of the goat tying and placed third in the average. Sierks is in the sixth place position of the regional standings.
In other regional standings, sophomore team ropers Trae Kautzman, of Walcott, ND and Tyler Wortman, of Towner, ND are fifth in the regional standings. In the bull riding, freshman Joe Bertus, of Avon, SD is fifth in the bull riding. Dustin Dailey is fifth in the steer wrestling.
The Lancer Rodeo Team will start the spring rodeo season March 15-17 at the Gillette College Rodeo.
The Lancer Rodeo 2013 will be April 5-7 in Torrington.
