EWC student athletes receive awards

The Eastern Wyoming College Athletic Department is proud to announce twenty-two student athletes earned the honor of the NJCAA Academic All Region IX for the 2015-2016 academic year.

To qualify a student athlete must have earned a minimum of a 3.25 cumulative GPA.  Individual award winners from the EWC golf team were Adrian Torres Ruiz, Madrid, Spain; Denton Shaw, Lusk, WY; and Eric Lovell, Greeley, CO. Award winners for men’s and women’s basketball: Hunter Johnson, Delta, UT; Grant Olsson, Gering, NE; Dustin Gatzki, Westlock, Canada; Sarah Bersang, Horens, Denmark; Emily Evans, Cheyenne, WY; Lacey Knudsen, Fairplay, CO; Jessica Lessard, Yoder, WY; Anna Perez, Canet de Mar, Spain; Carna Prokic, Subotica, Serbia; and Jessica Rossi, Yampa, CO; and from women’s volleyball:  Sophia Arensdorf, Ogallala, NE; Carmen Carvajal, Lugo, Spain; Lena Labitzke, Dresden, Germany; Taylor Limoges, Lyman, WY; Brittany O’Kief, Valentine, NE; Madison Powell, Yuma, CO; Sophia Seely, Cheyenne, WY; Madison Vitt, Mountain View, WY; and Shelby Welsh, Ogallala, NE.

In addition both women’s basketball and volleyball teams were honored in meeting the requirements for the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year. This is a team cumulative GPA of a minimum of 3.0 over the course of the academic year. The Women’s Basketball team earned a 3.31 GPA and the Volleyball GPA was 3.27. EWC’s nine international students had an overall GPA of 3.47.

Two rodeo team members were named Scholar Americans which requires a 3.5 cumulative GPA and points earned in competition. They were Jamie Thompson, Lusk, WY, and Cody Colman, O’Neill, NE.

EWC also had eight student athletes honored as Academic All-American Student Athletes, which requires a minimum 3.60 – 3.79 GPA for the Exemplary Award, 3.80-3.99 for the Superior Award, and a 4.00 for the Pinnacle award, and includes all college level student athletes. Those students earning honors were: men’s basketball, Hunter Johnson earned the Superior Award with a 3.84 GPA; women’s volleyball team, Sophia Arensdorf, Superior Award 3.92 GPA; Sophia Seely, Exemplary Award 3.69 GPA; Madison Vitt, Exemplary Award 3.76 GPA; women’s basketball, Sarah Bersang Exemplary Award 3.71 GPA; Anna Perez Exemplary Award 3.79 GPA; Lacey Knudsen Superior Award 3.81 GPA; and Jessica Rossi Superior Award 3.87 GPA.
