Torrington native, Zane Mackey, has joined the staff at Eastern Wyoming College as the assistant livestock judging coach. Mackey is currently working on a bachelor degree in Animal Science from the University of Wyoming where he was a member of the 2017 Livestock Judging Team. The team ended a 30 year dry spell for UW by being only one of six teams to place in the top ten at all four major judging competitions. Their 8th place finish at the North American International Livestock Exposition was the first time UW had walked that stage since 1988. Not only did the team set school records in beef, swine, oral reasons, and in overall placings but Mackey also set an individual record for UW finishing 22nd overall in the contest. Prior to UW, Mackey judged at Casper College. This past year he began assisting his brother with the Goshen County 4-H Livestock Judging team.
Mackey is an exciting addition for EWC as the school sees one of their largest groups of judgers since the team was resurrected in 2007. According Dr. Georgia Younglove, livestock judging coach, “Zane is extremely talented and has so much to offer the team on multiple levels. I just hope some of his passion for and dedication to livestock judging will rub off on our students.” Mackey has spent his time since finish his judging career at UW judging jackpots and fairs throughout the western United States.
