EWC wins golf season opener

The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer Golf team kicked off the fall season September 7th and 8th at their home course in Torrington.  The Lancers won the tournament with a two-day total score of 578.  McCook Community College finished second with a total score of 611.

Individually, the Lancers took the top four spots and ended up with six student-athletes in the top ten standings.

“The guys had a great first tournament of the year.  We are pretty young, so it was great to come out and see the team play well early,” said Coach Zach Smith.  “I couldn’t be happier for Malosi to get the individual win.  His positive attitude is infectious.  We have some good competition in the region this year so I’m excited to watch our team over the next several weeks.”

Malosi Togisala, freshman, Ogden, UT – 69-73 – 142, 1st
Jared Pilkington, sophomore, Scottsbluff, NE – 68-75 – 143, 2nd
Kash Kaufman, freshman, Torrington, WY – 77-68 – 145, 3rd
Gonzalo Arcelay Fernadez-Meras, freshman, Munguia, Spain – 71-75 – 146, tied 4th
Trey Massey, sophomore, Lander, WY – 77-70 – 147, 6th
Cameron Heath, freshman, Bolton, United Kingdom – 79-73 – 152, tied 8th

The Lancers will next compete in Riverton, September 21-22.
