Eastern Wyoming College’s George Cordall finished second with a -5 at the Northeastern Junior College Tournament in Sterling, Colorado on Thursday, April 13 and Friday, April 14.
Cordall lead at the close of day one with 67, two strokes ahead of McCook Community College’s Ethan Gough. On day two Gough was able to pull ahead, winning the tournament with a -7. Cordall finished in a tie for second with Northeastern Junior College’s Jackson Rottschater.
“George had a very solid first day to put him in first after day one but let it slide a bit on day two,” EWC head golf coach Zach Smith said. “Overall he had a good tournament to finish in second.”
The Lancer golf team had three golfers finish in the top 10 with Noah Taylor finishing in seventh place with a +2. Teammate Ryker Dunkley finished in a tie for eighth place with a +3. Other Lancers competing included Leandar Suttka, Oscar Behle, and Andrew Stannard,
“It was great to have some sunshine to play in this week, that was a very welcomed change by all. The guys played solid both days, we just didn’t have enough to get the win,” Smith said.
McCook Community College won the team honors with a -9, followed by EWC with a +6. Northeastern Junior College finished third followed by Otero College, Lamar Community College, and Central Wyoming College.
“I saw some continued growth in some of our freshmen that will help us finish the season strong and take those experiences into next fall,” Smith said.
