The freshman team roping team of Riley Curuchet, Kaycee, WY and Denton Shaw, Lusk, WY, have qualified for their first College National Rodeo Finals appearance. The team have lead the Central Rocky Mountain Regional standings all year for Eastern Wyoming College until this past weekend. Another team edged past them by five points but both teams have enough of a lead heading into the final rodeo that they cannot be moved out of the top two spots.
Curuchet and Shaw split 3rd and 4th in the first round and finished the weekend 4th in the average in the team roping at the annual college rodeo hosted by Casper College.
“We had a good showing at Casper,” shared Coach Jake Clark. “The team standings are going to come down to the last rodeo at UW. We have two CNFR qualifiers, Riley and Denton already with 4 others still in the hunt.”
In the tie down roping, freshman Tyus Olson, Mud Butte, SD, was 4th in the first round and 5th in the average. Teammate Tanner Freeman, sophomore, Dunning, NE, was 6th in the average. Cody Lane, sophomore, Torrington, WY, was 5th in the first round.
Sophomore Danny Manning, Hemingford, NE, split first and second in the first round of the steer wrestling and finished with a third place split in the average. Teammate Tanner Freeman also qualified for the short round.
In the barrel racing, freshman Baillie Mutchler, Whitewood, SD, qualified for the short round. She also qualified for the short round in the breakaway roping.
The Lancer rodeo team will conclude their season at the annual UW rodeo on April 29 – May 1 in Laramie, WY.
