Lancer Rodeo Team Finishes Fall Season with Much Success

TORRINGTON, WY –

The Eastern Wyoming College Lancer Rodeo team has a very successful fall season and there are a number of competitors looking toward a qualification to the College National Finals Rodeo to be held in Casper in June of 2011.

The men’s team is sitting in seventh place in the regional standings at the conclusion of the fall rodeos. The standings are tight and the door is still open for any college to make a move into the top spots.

The Lancer women are currently in fourth place in the regional standings and are looking forward to moving to the top with the help of a successful spring season.

Two EWC competitors captured second and third place in the tie down roping standings. Freshman Riley Pruitt, Gering, NE and sophomore Troy Wilcox, Red Owl, SD consistently earned points at most of the fall rodeos to secure their positions. With a successful spring season, either competitor has a strong chance of winning a regional title.

Wilcox also earned points in the team roping this fall which currently has him sitting in eighth place in the heading with partner Tee Hale a freshman from White Owl, SD. Colby Sturgeon, Torrington and Trae Seebaum, Douglas both earned points in the team roping at the fall rodeos.

In the barrel racing, Branda Williams, Hammond, MT and Stephanie Newman, Melstone, MT, each earned points and are looking forward to the spring season so that they can make a move in the regional standings.

Toree Gunn, Wasta, SD, is currently tied for fourth place in the breakaway standings. Teammates Cecelia Opela, hometown, and Shelby Winchell, Scottsbluff, NE each earned points during the fall season.

Winchell is sitting securely in third place in the goat tying standings and is looking forward a successful spring rodeo season with a chance of winning a regional title.

The Lancer Rodeo team suffered a tough loss this fall season when returning CNFR qualifier Wyatt Clark, was injured this fall. “The best diagnosis for Wyatt’s clavicle injury is to take a year off from Bareback Riding. Surgery in that area can be difficult. He can start heavy workouts within six months. He was a big part of the team but the guys are really stepping up,” shared coach Jake Clark.

“The team has their eye on the spring season already. We will begin practice again in January. Don’t forget to attend the Lancer Rodeo March 25-27 at the Goshen County Pavilion,” added Clark.
