EWC’s Suttka finishes 2nd at home
Eastern Wyoming College’s Leander Suttka tied for second place with a -1 in the Lancers home tournament held at the Cottonwood Golf Course in Torrington, Wyoming April 26-27.
Suttka finished in a four-way tie with McCook Community College’s Ethan Gough, Jordan Bingham and Cade Cryer. Northeastern Junior College’s Jackson Rottschafer won the tournament with a -2.
“It was great to see Leander play well, especially because it was his birthday,” EWC head golf coach Zach Smith said.
Two other Lancers, George Cordall and Noah Taylor finished in the top 10. Cordall finished even in a tie for sixth place, while Taylor finished +3 in ninth place. Other Lancers competing in their home tournament included Oscar Behle, Andrew Stannard, and Tyler Fraser.
“It’s always great to play on your home course, especially with some good weather for the most part,” Smith said. “It’s tough to fall short at home but McCook has played very well all spring.”
McCook Community College won the team honors with a -9, followed by EWC with a +7. Northeastern Junior College finished third followed by Otero College, Central Wyoming College, and Lamar Community College.
“The guys and I are looking forward to competing in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament May 16-19 in Newton, Kansas,” Smith said.
Heading into the championship tournament three Lancer are in the top 10 in League Standing. Cordall is ranked second, with Suttka in ninth and Taylor in tenth. McCook Community College’s Ethan Gough is the league’s top ranked golfer.
