ACCUPLACER Academic Placement Tests

ACCUPLACER is a suite of placement exams used to determine the proper placement of students in Math, English, and Reading. Students may take one test, any combination of two tests, or all three tests in one sitting. By appointment only.

The fee is $20.00 and must be paid to the EWC Business Office in advance of testing. The first retake of each test is free at a later date if taken within one year of the initial test. Every subsequent retake is $7.50 per test. Click on the link below to pay your testing fee.

Additional Math Placement Information

If you are taking the math portion of the Accuplacer or are having math scores for the ACT or SAT sent to EWC, please take a couple of minutes to complete the free Math Grit Survey as another element of the math placement process.

ACCUPLACER Details

  • All associate degree-seeking students must take placement exams in English, Math, and Reading prior to registration to aid in proper class placement.
  • All certificate and non-degree-seeking students must take the placement exams prior to enrolling in certain English or math courses.
  • Students with appropriate ACT scores may not need to take the placement exams.
  • The cost of placement testing is $20, payable in the EWC Business Office.

CLEP

CLEP is the College Level Examination Program that gives students an opportunity to earn college credit by earning qualifying scores on examinations (‘CLEPing out of class’).

A maximum of 15 credit hours of credit by examination may be earned toward EWC graduation requirements.

Students should confirm with the college or university to which they are transferring that their test scores will be accepted if given on-campus at EWC.

By appointment only. The fee is $89.00 and is paid directly to CLEP/ETS in advance of testing and a $15.00 test administration fee is paid to the EWC Business Office.

Students showing proficiency by passing a CLEP exam may earn Eastern Wyoming College college credit. Grades of S and U are given on all examinations, and the credit is included in the hours toward graduation (but not included in the student’s grade average).

Eastern Wyoming College courses for which credit may be earned through CLEP are shown below:

  • A fee is assessed for each CLEP exam, along with a $15 fee to EWC.
  • Active duty military personnel may be eligible for DANTES-funded CLEP exams.  For more information on eligibility requirements see Who is Eligible.

HiSET

HiSET is a set of tests used to attain a high school equivalency certificate. It is made up of 5 subtests:  Language Arts – Reading, Language Arts – Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Students may take one test, any combination of two, three, four tests or all five tests in one sitting

The fee is $53.75 for all 5 tests paid to PSI HiSET with online registration and a $15.00 test administration fee paid to the EWC Business Office.

Pay Proctor Fee

The Adult Learning Center offers services to adults in HiSET preparation. HiSET Test candidates who are under the age of 18 must apply for an Age Waiver through the Wyoming Community College Commission before taking the exams.

WorkKeys

WorkKeys exams are an ACT product with a workplace focus rather than an academic focus. The two main purposes for taking the WorkKeys test are to qualify for the National Career Readiness Certificate or to qualify for a Hathaway Scholarship. The three subtests include: Applied Mathematics, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documents. Students may take one test, any combination of two tests, or all three tests in one sitting.

The fee is $55.00 and must be paid to the EWC Business Office in advance of testing.

TEAS

TEAS is a required admissions test for the Associate Degree of Nursing (ADN) program at EWC. The majority of TEAS testing will occur during the Spring Semester prior to the start of the new Fall Semester cohort group.

By appointment only at the Torrington and Douglas Campus.

The fee is $70.00 and must be paid to the EWC Business Office in advance of testing. No-shows or cancellations less than 24 hours prior to the exam will be charged a $20.00 fee.

ADA Accommodation Tests

Any student enrolled at Eastern Wyoming College who has a documented physical disability or learning disability is eligible for assistance.

Accommodation testing may include a distraction-reduced testing environment, a reader, a scribe, and/or increased time.

EWC Makeup Exams

Some walk-ins are accepted, but test candidates are encouraged to make appointments prior to testing to guarantee a seat.

Course Exams (for other colleges and universities)

By appointment only and all information needed must be provided by the other college or university. A $15.00 proctor fee per test is due before testing for all out of state exams.
